What is the 14th amendment?
Granted citizenship to “all persons born or naturalized in the United States,”.
It forbids states from denying any person "life, liberty or property, without due process of law" or to "deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws.”
Why is it important?
Every person born in the USA has the same rights and responsibilities. Fair trials must take place and all can enjoy the benefits of citizenship. It is also important to civil rights because it is the amendment that says that all people must be treated equally.
What groups have benefitted from the 14th Amendment since the 1950s?!
