The Muraski Tribune
Your weekly update on the happening of Muraski Elementary!
Message from the Principal: PBIS Continuted
Good Morning Muraski Families,
I have been incredibly proud of our students and their willingness to work on taking PRIDE in their work at Muraski. In creating a positive environment at our school, we want students to be Prepared, Respectful, Inclusive, Determined, and Engaged. This couldn't be any more true than on the playground, where respect, inclusivity, and engagement are key components of a successful and fun playground experience. This environment is where some of the most important learning takes place at our building.
On the playground, we want students to Have F.U.N:
Fun is FAIR
Fun is UNITED
Fun is when we are NICE to everyone
In order to assist in our implementation, we would love you to have conversations with your child about these expectations and how they can be Model Mustangs at our school. As I've always said, it takes a village. If we can work together, we can create an incredible place for our students every day.
Sincerely,
Mike Griffen
SUPPORT OUR PTA: HAVE DINNER OUT ON WEDNESDAY @ FIVE GUYS

First Grade Update
Second Grade Update
Although it was a short school week, our second graders still accomplished great tasks throughout! A big highlight of our learning this week focused on the important efforts of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Students learned more about his life and his historic achievements in the Civil Rights Movement. This topic spurred some emotional reactions from our young students and led to high quality discussions about character and how to treat others with fairness and respect. It's amazing how events from our nation's past can still directly correlate with our current PBIS initiatives, Strongsville PRIDE, and our Model Mustang competencies of Resilience and Collaboration that we are focusing so much on during this school year and into the future. We are proud of the learning and reflection that took place this week as we continue to enforce Dr. King's dream of equality for all through our actions toward others. As we look ahead to next week, we are excited to implement our weekly "Fluency Folder" reading homework that will continue to support our second graders' growing reading development, with an important focus on comprehension. We thank you all in advance for your collaboration on this important endeavor that will be in place until the end of the school year. We wish you all a wonderful weekend and productive week ahead!
Third Grade Update
Fourth Grade Update
Fourth graders are plugging along in ELA. We are working on poetry, drama, and prose. The students are learning the characteristics of each and how to tell the difference between them. We are also working on point of view. They are now able to tell if the author uses first or third person to tell their story. Throughout the rest of this month and through the rest of the 2nd trimester they will be finishing and presenting book projects that they have been working hard on.
In science, we have been studying physical science. Currently we are using batteries, lightbulbs, and wires to make complete circuits. Ask your 4th grader the difference between an open and closed circuit. We also have tested different items to see if they are conductors or insulators.
Please make sure your fourth grader is reading EVERY night. Ask them questions about what they've read, have them show you new vocabulary words they found, or have them keep a journal of their reading.
Fifth Grade Update
ATTENTION 5th GRADE PARENTS: THE MEMORIES PROGRAM IS APPROACHING
***Attention Parents-Photos are Needed for 5th Grade Memories Program***
Now is the time to start to gather up your 5th graders school memories as we begin to put together the video. This video has always been a favorite part of the program which will be featuring photos of your 5th graders journey though the grade school years. We are looking for Kindergarten-5th grade school pictures that you'd want to share in the video. If your child came from another school please include those photos as well.
Please email the grade school years photos for the video to 5thmuraskimemories@gmail.com
We also need one baby photo and one current photo of your 5th grader. These will need to be a hard copy as we will use the photos to make a take home gift for the families.
**A couple things to consider when choosing photos
The photo needs to be no larger than 3 1/2 x 5.
We may need to cut/trim the photo.
Please send in the baby photo and current photo to your child's teacher with Attention 5th Grade Memories/PTA
We appreciate your help in making this a fantastic program. We couldn't do it without you!
