Parent/Teacher Conferences
Parent Teacher Conferences
Tuesday, November 9, 2021 @ 5:00-8:00 PM
November 11, 2021 @ 1:00 – 4:00 PM & 5:00-8:00 PM
It may be hard to believe, but we are near the end of our first card marking period. Since the start of school, we have worked together to navigate some of the challenges of our environment but also celebrate real successes of the connections being made between teachers and our students. It is now our opportunity to schedule Parent-Teacher Conferences. Conferences are an important part of our partnership to make sure students are meeting our shared expectations.
This year, we will be piloting a web-based process to schedule and virtually meet with your child’s teachers about their progress. The system we are using is called Conference Manager and will allow you to check our teachers’ conference schedules and book an appointment on-line. You will use the same system for you and your student’s teacher to have a virtual conversation about academic progress.
The first time you use the Conference Manager you will be required to register and create a parent account. This only takes a minute or two. You will continue to use this same account for the duration of the time you have children in the school, so please record your password where you can reference it later.
Please note while you can register at any time, the appointment window will not open until 6 a.m. on October 26, 2021. The appointment window will close on November 6, 2021 at 10:30 p.m. To create an account, or to schedule for conferences please click on the newsletter below.

End Of The Marking Period
We are nearing the end of the first Marking Period which is Friday, October 29, 2021. That marks an important check point in our year as we take stock of where we are. We continue to be optimistic, knowing that we have to continue to rebound from the last year and a half while pushing forward. This is no small task, but I’m confident our teachers and students are up to that challenge.
Squid Game- Netflix Show
If you are unaware of this show, the basic premise is that deeply indebted individuals can win large sums of money by winning competitions based on traditional children’s games. However, those who do not win meet with an untimely and often violent demise. I am aware that children can often access this programming without parental awareness or consent, so I wanted to make sure that, as parents, you were informed about this and have the opportunity to follow up with your children as you see appropriate.
Meanwhile, at Havel, please know that we are continuing to do our best to work with our students to create a safe learning environment in which all of our students are accepted, valued, and kind to one another.

Covid Exposures & Quarantining Process
Critical to our keeping kids in school is knowing when to keep your student at home. Whether you’ve been exposed to COVID or not, anyone who is sick should stay home. Whether it is COVID, the flu, or other ailments, if you have more than one of the minor symptoms (headache, runny nose, fever, etc.) or ANY of the major symptoms (including cough, shortness of breath, difficulty breathing, or loss of taste or smell, your student MUST stay home. That and following Macomb County Dept. of Health Mitigation Strategies will help keep our students safe, well and in school!
REPORT CARDS COMING IN NOVEMBER THROUGH POWERSCHOOL ACCOUNTS
During November, Havel will distribute reports cards electronically. The first marking period grades will be sent electronically to families around mid-November after parent teacher conferences.
To receive the report cards, parents will need to have a secure PowerSchool account. Parents who do not have access to a PowerSchool account will need to register for one prior to Friday, October 29th. The report cards will then be automatically e-mailed to the address that is used to register the PowerSchool account. If you already have a PowerSchool account, you do not need to take any further action. The report card automatically will be sent to you electronically.
See the article below for directions and help setting up your PowerSchool account.

The personal use of non-school issued cell phones or other electronic communications devices (ECDs) by students is prohibited at any time while in school or in a district vehicle. They cannot be displayed or used without permission from a teacher or administrator for educational purposes.
Personal use of the device shall be limited to the time before and after the school day and only when students are outside the building. ECDs shall not be used during instructional time, lunch, passing time between classes or on any school bus without permission of a school official.
The use of an ECD’s picture-taking or internet connection capability is not permitted without permission of a teacher or administrator. Utica Community Schools will not be responsible for the theft, loss or damage of any ECD. Appropriate disciplinary action will be taken against students who violate the policy regulating ECDs.
SCHOOL APPROPRIATE COSTUME CHOICES
Students should refrain from violent characterization and may not use any fake weapons, fake blood, or any references to victims or perpetrators of violence for their costume choice at school. Violent characterization is unacceptable for school parades and where younger students might be frightened. If deemed inappropriate by school personnel, students will be asked to remove the costume and/or wash makeup.
Book, cartoon, folk heroes, historical figures, and period costumes are all good ideas to consider when thinking of the perfect costume. If you have any questions regarding suitability, please contact the school at 797 - 5200.
Since it is a half day (12:20 dismissal), students will be allowed to wear partial costumes to school. Check to be sure that your child can walk freely, and that the costume will be comfortable enough for the classroom setting. Masks may be worn (frightening masks not permitted) but those that impede vision should be left at home. Plan to have your child bring any costume props (wigs and other add-ons) to school in a bag or backpack.
Classroom Halloween Celebrations
Parents will be able to send in candy or a treat bag for the students to pass out. Please note that due to health/allergy concerns students should not being in any candy that contains nuts.
We do not allow any homemade snacks and treats, all items must be prepackaged.
Thank you for helping us keep all our Havel Hawks safe!
Halloween Parade Information
Please note, that COVID school guidelines state that we are to avoid large indoor gatherings and that only essential guests are allowed in the building. In the event the weather doesn't cooperate we will not be able to have a parade. Instead parents would be able to sign their child out from their classroom teachers exterior doors beginning at 11:30 for an early dismissal.
