SMARTER BALANCED INTERIM ASSESSMENT PILOT: TEACHERS NEEDED (From LSS)
We are seeking two teachers from your site to try out the Interim Assessments from Smarter Balanced. The Smarter Balanced Consortium has produced a series of tests that teachers can use during the school year. These tests are called Interim Block Assessments and typically take one hour to administer. The tests are grade level specific (but you can give a student any grade level test). In many of the tests the answers are machine scored with typically one or two questions that require the teacher to score with a rubric and on a computer. There are also performance tasks which require more hand scoring (again on the computer). The results a teacher receives is limited, but teachers can see questions ahead of time and can even show students these questions on a computer screen, before or after the test, or as a teaching tool. The tests may not be reproduced.
We need teacher input on the efficacy of these assessments and assist us in generating guidelines for the use of these assessments. To that end, we are seeking two teachers from each site who would be interested in:
· Administering one of the interim block tests (e.g. “Expressions and Equations” or “Read Informational Texts”) and one performance task this December to one class
· Attend a two hour orientation meeting on December 1st, 4:00 p.m. in the District Office Training Lab.
· Participate in a release day on January 7th to score the tests, discuss the uses of this assessment and participate in a general discussion on assessment guidance in the district
We are seeking two participants from your school who teach in grades 2 – 5th. Special education teacher are welcome to participate as one of your two participants.
Teachers who have agreed to participate should complete the following four question Survey Monkey and sign the security affidavit. We need this completed by November 13th please. https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/ICA_IAB
