The cold war is called the cold war because the U.S and the U.S.S.R never actually fought. Both sides just made threats to each other with nuclear missiles involved. There were battles but they didn't have anything to do with the U.S and the U.S.S.R
Well it all started right after WW2. The U.S.S.R tried to take over Europe. Sounds familiar doesn't it? Stalin wanted to be the new Hitler but wasn't as cruel. All of this also lead to the construction of the Berlin Wall. Eventually it was torn down but it separated the capital of Germany for a long time.
9/11 and the terrorists
Although we know terrorists by the 9/11 attack, but this isn't the first time people have encountered terrorists. The Munich Massacre was a very well known terrorist attack. It happened during the Olympics in 1972.
Terrorists attack because they want to spread by force. Not only do they frighten people but they also enrage people. This isn't a very good tactic by them in my opinion. Although they weaken the spirits of countries, they cant crush the spirits. Some attacks may have succeeded more than others, it doesn't matter since the leader of Al Qaeda is dead.
