Swift - Slaybaugh Complex
May 15, 2022
Principal's Message
It is hard to believe that we are approaching the last full week of May and Memorial Day Weekend. This week we continued to have fun events at the Swift-Slaybaugh Complex, including two more grade levels going on field trips and an assembly sponsored by Atlantic County Clean Communities. On Wednesday, May 18th and Thursday, May 19th, the preschool classes visited the Cape May County Zoo. On Friday, May 20th, the first-grade students also visited the zoo. Everyone enjoyed their trips, and again, it's so nice to be out in the community and experiencing the normal, fun things students were able to do before the pandemic.
The "Grand Falloons" came to the complex to put on four shows for our students. The show taught students about waste reduction and recycling in a fun and entertaining way. We are planning to finish out the year strong academically and continue to present our students with fun opportunities, many of which can be seen in the newsletter/calendars below. Thank you for your continued support and I hope you and your families have a great weekend.
Sincerely,
Joe Marinelli

April's top readers!
In April, our top readers in 2nd grade were Derrek Caez, Keira Nixon, and Madison Feld who read for 3,180 minutes... AMAZING!
Our top 3rd grade readers were Matthew Kim, Aisha Hossain, and Laureen Appolon who had 3,320 minutes of reading during April. Excellent work to all of these and the other readers who reached their at-home reading goal.
In school, our top classes were Mrs. Pellegrini's class and Mrs. Efstatos' class. We only have a few more weeks of at home reading, so make it a strong finish!
Things are lifting off in Second Grade!
Bonjour, Swift-Slaybaugh Complex!
On Thursday, May 19th the honors French students from Fernwood Middle School came to the Swift Slaybaugh Complex to read to students, teach some French vocabulary, and create a craft together. Madame Baird's students have been working on this project for several weeks now. Our young students love learning from "big kids" like these! It's a great learning opportunity for ALL of the students. The following classes had students visit their class and present lessons:
Kindergarten:
Mrs. Ebert
First Grade:
Mrs. Widas
Mrs. Buganski
Mrs. Stuhltrager
Second Grade:
Mrs. Huba
Mrs. Pellegrini
Third Grade:
Mrs. Swigert & Mrs. Alverson
Mrs. McGowan

The Grand Falloons
We would like to thank the Atlantic County Clean Communities for sponsoring "The Grand Falloons" assembly. The Grand Falloons is an Earth Science Program that came to the Swift-Slaybaugh Complex and treated our K-3 students to a great show this past week. Professor Hodge-Podge lectured the students on waste and recycling.

We are excited to kick off our "Little Eagles Fun Run" program on June 1st. Our goal is to raise $25,000 for student achievement and activities & staff enrichment. This will help strengthen our school community. To make our fundraising more profitable and fun, we have partnered with Boosterthon! Boosterthon is a 2-week fundraising campaign that promotes fitness, teamwork, and character while helping our school raise much needed funds! The program will begin with a kickoff video on June 1st and end with an epic Fun Run experience on June 10th!
All students will run 35 minutes and get pledges for each lap they run (Ex: $1 per minute = $35) or they can get flat donation pledges as well. As they get pledges, they have the opportunity to earn fun prizes too. Between kickoff and Fun Run, students will learn about character, be issued nightly challenges, and get pledges from friends and family to help their school!
We completely understand if your family is not in a position to financially support the school right now. You can still be involved by simply SHARING about our fundraiser with friends and extended family online at MYBOOSTER.COM. Sharing IS supporting! Just as we worked to safely begin school this year, we are also safely hosting this essential fundraiser based on our school’s current guidelines. We’ll send more details, as we get closer to our kick off.
