Welcome to Our House "Where Character Matters"
Dear Botsford Families,
What better way to spend time with your child on these cold, winter days than to cuddle up and read. You can help grow your child into a CONFIDENT and independent reader by sharing stories and modeling your love of reading. I have shared an informative 3 minute video below. Here are also some helpful tips:
- Read with your child 20 minutes each night. Hearing your language patterns and expressions builds your child's fluency and vocabulary.
- Read high interest short stories or chapter books that get your child excited about reading.
- Take turns reading aloud with your child.
- Read sections of the newspaper or magazine articles together.
- Re-read favorite books. Encourage your child to tell what happens next. This reinforces comprehension skills.
- Read printed words anywhere you find them - mail, advertisements, recipes, street signs, billboards, names of shops, etc.
- Learn new words together. Show an interest in building your own vocabulary.
- Carry books with you everywhere you go. Find a few minutes to read some pages while running errands or waiting at the doctor's office.
Create a comfortable reading and writing environment at home.
- Have a place where your child can easily access books, magazines, newspapers, and writing materials.
- Turn off the television and spend time reading or journaling as a family.
- Write notes to your children or type them emails.
- Encourage use of a dictionary or thesaurus.

NWEA Testing for KINDERGARTEN through 2nd Grade Students
Our students in grades K-2 will begin NWEA testing this week and they will continue to text next week. We are celebrating GROWTH and recognizing students who follow our test taking success criteria.
Pace yourself. Give yourself at least 30 minutes!
Always do your best. We are looking for effort!
Work smart and ask for help if you need it.
Success will be had by all.
All students who follow the PAWS expectations will earn a ticket for a drawing to win a Five Below MEGA Candy tube-1 winner per day!
Our 3rd-5th grade students displayed tremendous focus and persistence while testing. Students really seemed to appreciate the mini conferences we held with each of them as their Winter NWEA scored was revealed to them.

Dress for Recess Success
Our Bobcats go outside each day for lunch recess except in bitter weather. When dressed warmly, fresh air is healthy and helpful in refreshing our students for an afternoon of learning.
If our children do not have proper clothing for the weather they will feel uncomfortable and will not be able to enjoy time with friends. With the wet and snowy conditions boots are needed to keep feet dry. We do not want our little ones to have wet feet all afternoon. You might consider sending an extra pair of socks to school for your child to keep in his or her backpack. Snow pants are highly recommended but are not required.
Generally if a child is well enough to be in school, he or she is well enough to go outside. If this is NOT the case for your child please provide the office with a note from a physician stating his or her playground restrictions.
Clarenceville Schools and Caller ID
FYI - Please know that when an outgoing call is made from ANY school phone in the district, it shows on your own caller ID as 248-919-0200 and identifies the number as a Michigan call.
This is the same caller ID number for all district buildings.
If you see this number as a missed call, please call back the school your child attends and not the number shown on your caller ID.
