Presidents' Day
A message from the Assistant Principal-Mr. Lynch
As our abbreviated, yet productive week comes to a close, it is important to remember the things that matter most. Monday was Valentine’s Day. While the meaning of the holiday changes as we age, there is something special about Valentine’s Day in an elementary school. Cards and treats are exchanged, but more importantly, students are able to show their appreciation for one another. Each individual is reminded that they have an entire classroom full of people who care about them.
The Puffball Challenge is in full swing and our community jar is slowly getting more and more full. We will be continuing to focus our efforts on following hallway expectations. Students are remembering to walk in the hallways, keep their bodies under control, and use an appropriate voice level. By following these expectations, our students are keeping themselves and everyone around them safe.
While students will not return to class until Tuesday, teachers and staff will be spending a portion of that time enacting one of the 7 habits of highly effective people; “sharpening their saws”. Professional Development time is used to learn new methods, analyze data, and reflect on current teaching practices. It is important that our students know that even their teachers are constantly learning new things!
As always, thank you for your support!
Jon Lynch
2nd Grade and 5th Grade Chorus Holiday Concert
5th Grade Camp
Although things with COVID are currently unknown and causing a great deal of issues in society, we are attempting to plan a possible camp experience for our 5th graders. Assuming things lighten up and the cases of COVID are what they were last Spring/Summer, the Fifth-grade students at Brimfield Elementary and Suffield Elementary will have the opportunity to attend camp at Camp Muskingum in Carrollton, Ohio from May 25 – May 27, 2022. The cost of the 2022 outdoor education program is approximately $145 per student. Parents and students should begin planning on this expense at this time.
To reserve your child’s spot at camp, a deposit of $45.00 will be due before March 1st. Two additional payments of $50.00 are due before April 1st and May 1st. If camp must be canceled due to COVID, any money you have deposited will be returned to you. To attend camp, all fees due to the school must also be paid in full. Contact the secretary if you have questions regarding this.

Counselor's Corner- A Note From Miss Livers
Building confidence in our students is important. Whether your child is full of confidence or seems to be in constant self-doubt, there are things we can be doing every day to help build those feelings of confidence. Here are some ideas for families to incorporate ideas on how to build confidence. One way to help children build confidence is by encouraging them to learn and try new things. Whether it is a new sport or activity, trying something new can help students gain the confidence to continue to grow and adapt to new environments. Although they may struggle at first, once they accomplish their goals, they will feel capable and competent. Similarly, giving your child age-appropriate responsibilities, like taking care of their things, taking care of a pet, etc. can help your child feel like they can contribute to making the world a better place. Like any skill or habit you want your child to pick up on, it’s important to model positive self-esteem. Children are always watching. When you turn your mistakes into opportunities to learn, use positive self-talk, or accomplish new things, your child will feel empowered to do the same.
Also: Careers! I am looking for parents, grandparents, or anyone who is part of the Field family who might be interested in recording themselves answering a few questions about their career, job, occupation, and/or trade school experience! I am hoping to create a library of careers for our students to explore and learn about. If you are interested in participating please email me at Emilee.Livers@fieldlocalschools.org. I look forward to connecting with you!

Outdoor Recess
Temperatures are starting to drop and we would like to pass along some details about recess, so you can plan accordingly. We will go out to recess if the temperature is above 20 degrees. If you are in need of a new coat for your child, we do have some that were donated and would be happy to help your child with a new winter coat. Please call or write a note to Mrs. Bookman if we can help! We would like to remind parents that there are certain areas on the playground where snow boots are required and other areas where snow pants and boots are required during the winter months. If they do not wear the proper attire for these areas, they will have to stay on the blacktop area. Thank you in advance for your help.

Birthday Treats-MUST be prepackaged, ONLY
At this time, we will allow Birthday Treats to be brought to school. We are required to inform you of the Healthy Eating Guidelines (see below) and suggest that you use this when selecting a treat. Whatever you choose, please note that all treats brought to school for the purpose of sharing with others, need to be prepackaged so we are able to know and see the ingredients list. There are many students who have a variety of food allergies and having the ingredients listed helps the school nurse determine if a student with allergies can eat a particular treat.

We continue to use a block schedule where specials will rotate every four days. This means there is no specific day for music, art, Computer Lab, or P.E. Each class will have an assigned time and will participate in these specials in a rotating sequence. One huge benefit will be that no special will regularly be missed because of school holidays. Your child’s teacher will let you know your child’s exact schedule. Be sure to check the breakfast menu to see what “day” we are on!
