AMEA
September, 2017
Now that your school year is well under way, the names of the students in your classes are not new to you, and you are settling in to a schedule routine, take a moment to catch up on what is happening in AMEA. The information below is to help keep you informed and connected to your professional community.
Arizona Leadership Assembly, August, 2017
The morning's General Session included a brief presentation and some strategic direction from our NAfME Chief Operating Officer, Chris Woodside. He addressed where Arizona is regarding ESSA (Every Student Succeeds Act) and what we, as music educators and advocates, can do to keep our progress moving forward. We also welcomed Dustin Loehr, AZ Dept of Education's Arts Education Specialist. In addition, David Waggoner, AMEA Executive Director, spoke briefly regarding the historical background of our uniquely unified association.
Our Arizona music leadership concluded the morning with three breakout sessions bringing valuable insights relevant to Advocacy and Professional Development.
After a little barbecue, The Conference Committee met to review upcoming deadlines; followed by the constituent board meetings, and the Leadership training conducted by Sarah Ross, AMEA VP High School Activities and Max Rogers, AMEA VP EL/JH School Activities.
The afternoon wrap up offered encouragement to our state music leadership to step out of our comfort zones and advocate for our amazing associations, and all of the benefits that membership offers.
Do you know a teacher new to Arizona or your District?
Take a moment and reflect on the music professionals (retired, teaching, collegiate) in your district or community and ask yourself the following question:
"Is he/she a member of AZ Music Educators Association?"
ASK!
If they are not a member, share how membership can benefit them.
