Week 4
Congrats on making it through the first 3 weeks of school! As we push forward into competitions and the end of the six weeks keep an eye on your grades and make sure you are planning ahead.
Now is the time to ask for help in a class if you are struggling. Please make sure you take time during activity period to get help and look at the tutorial board in the band hall to see which of your peers are willing to help!
The amount of progress made in the past week has been tremendous. Continue your hard work and dedication to excellence!
Reminder:
The approved testing dates have been published since March 2017. Please make sure you are planning accordingly. Absences for testing on NOT APPROVED dates are unexcused.

GROUP AND INDIVIDUAL PHOTOS ON FRIDAY SEPT. 15, 5:30 P.M.
We will take our annual group and individual photos on Friday, Sept. 15 from 5:30 p.m. until 8 p.m.
Students should report to the band hall after school to get their uniform and get their hair and makeup ready for the picture (change- students need to wear Performance hair).
-The group photo will be at 5:30 p.m. — main gym
-Section photos after group photo — main gym
-Individual photos taken after section photos — orchestra/choir room (every student is asked to get their picture taken, and sibling pictures will also be here, too)
-No purchase is mandatory for this photo shoot, however, we want everyone to take their individual photos in case parents decide to purchase a photo or a button later. NOTE: A portion of every order is donated back to the Wakeland Band Boosters so this ends up being a substantial fundraiser for the band as well
-Parents who have already filled out forms will be contacted
-Photo can be ordered by students bringing this form (attached) or by ordering online after the shoot at: http://www.heartoftexasphotography.com/p1028912666
Any questions can be directed to john@heartoftexasphotography.com

Event Volunteer Signups
Hard to believe we are onto game 3! If you don't like traffic and want a free ride to the JJ Pearce game...sign up to chaperone or to do field crew ride the bus!
A huge thank you to all of our volunteers!! We can't do it without you. Our last two games have gone really well.
I have added slots for chaperones for all of the games and volunteers have changing schedules so continue to look at all of the signups. The newest sign up is the Community Performance with Middle School night. Also note that Senior night is Nov 2.
We need you! We encourage every family to volunteer at least twice during the school year so our program runs smoothly. We still have volunteer opportunities at all events.
If you have any questions concerning volunteering, you may contact the chair of that position or contact the Volunteer Chair, Melinda Wemhoff at booster-volunteers@wakelandband.com
The Wakeland band family needs you!

Parent Volunteers Needed for Student Fundraiser Committee
This year the WHS Band has decided to try a new activity for the Student Fundraiser that we hope will become an annual tradition for the Band.
The First Annual Wakeland Band Top Golf Experience will be Monday January 15th, 2018. This Martin Luther King Day, so the staff and students have the day off school. The event starts at 9am and runs until 1:00pm. Breakfast and non-alcoholic beverages will be provided.
This will be a fun as well as competitive activity as we will have games for Golfers of all skills or no skills. The students will be selling tickets, getting sponsors, getting auction/raffle items, and helping with check-in and award presentations. We would like to have a silent auction or raffle to help fundraising at this event.
We are in need of Parent Volunteers to assist the Ways & Means Chairperson, Steve Kopp, and be on a Committee to plan this Event. Help is needed for Planning, Online Ticket Sales/Website, Auction/Raffle donation coordination, publicity and brainstorming fun ideas for the event.
If you have any questions or are interested in being on this Committee, please email Steve Kopp at booster-waysandmeans@wakelandband.com or call (214) 449-8115.
