Jags are on the Move!
Hello Jag Families,
This week has been a super busy one. Our band and orchestra students performed at region and their excellence did shine through. Congrats to all students who were name to one of the region bands or to a region orchestra. Some students even received the honor of being first chair in the top performance group. SMS is amazing and I am grateful for the directors, the students, and the supportive parents. Fine arts is on fire as our theater students head on to district competition for UIL One Act Play. School safety and rigorous instruction are still at the forefront of our weekly planning. The extracurricular activities just reminds me of how talented, dedicated, and awesome our kids truly are. Come out and support the basketball teams and cross country runners. Congrats to our XC team for participating in their 1st XC meet in history.
Bundle up and enjoy the chilly weekend.

Student Spotlight
Nao Fukushima recently moved from Japan and started school as a 6th grader at Sartartia Middle School this year. Nao is working hard to learn English and keep up with all of her assignments. Her teachers say that she is one of the hardest workers in their classes. Nao loves to read and she is a very gifted artist. She often draws visual representations of the vocabulary words that they are learning in social studies and impresses both students and teachers with her drawings. Nao exhibits the traits of a life-long learner as she embraces learning in every class and everywhere she goes.
Staff Spotlight
Amy Schepanski is our amazing Clinic Assistant. This is her 10th year at SMS and everyone lovingly knows her as “Miss Amy.” Miss Amy and her husband, Jeff, have been married for 25 years! They have raised two amazing young men, Steven and Dylan. Steven recently graduated from Rice University, majoring in electrical engineering and is working for a great company in the Woodlands. He just rescued a boxer puppy. Dylan is a sophomore at Austin High School where he plays the trumpet and is actively involved in marching band. Dylan recently started a board game club at school. Bella, her puppy, is Miss Amy’s favorite child, because she doesn't talk back, but she is definitely the loudest. In her free time, Amy loves doing all sorts of crafts and recently started her own cookie business!
