From the Nest

This newsletter provides information on activities and concerns of sixth grade students and teachers. Mr. Anderson - Language Arts

We will have vocabulary, and continue to read in our novel groups. Students will be given class time on Tuesday and Wednesday to work on their final persuasive essays. Accelerated Reader for fourth quarter will be extra credit. We will be reviewing some of the graphic organizer reading strategies from the beginning of the year. By Memorial Day weekend, I hope to have completed all essay assignments and novel groups.

Ms. Bosse - Math

Math 6- We're working through an "Adopt a Pet" project to focus on budgeting and adding decimal values. We also did a Recipe activity where we halved and doubled recipes. Next week we will be working on Scale Drawings and I will introduce Translations on a Coordinate Grid.


Extended 6- We reviewed Scientific Notation and Integer Operations this week. Next week we will be learning about the Counting Principle and and Histograms. We also did the Recipe activity where we halved and doubled recipes.


Mr. Cardone - Social Studies

Students will begin our last unit on the Civil War. A unit project will be distributed and students will begin exploring the causes for the Civil War. For this unit, students will be asked to create a map of the major battles and events that transpire during the War.


Mr. Cardone - Science

Students will continue our weather unit but learning how to map current weather conditions as well as discussing the different types of precipitation. We will have a quiz on the atmosphere on Tuesday of next week.


Introduction to World Languages – 6th grade – 18 weeks

We will be starting to learn about the French culture and Language next week. Please contact me if you have any questions.

Send in some tissues. Winter and allergy season have used up our supply! Please send in a box of tissues to get us through the end of the year.

Reward Field Trip - Laser Tag

Students will have the opportunity to go play laser tag if they meet the following requirements as of the fourth quarter interim:

-A/B Honor Roll

-No Us

-No more than three detentions

-No Referrals

Library Announcement

All books are due back in the library by Friday, June 3. Lost or damaged books must also be paid for by that date. Checks payable to Pennington or cash (exact change) are acceptable when settling student accounts. We do not charge fines, only the replacement cost of the book. In need of a 'handy person' to cut some wood, pvc pipe and build a very simple platform. If you have tools and need some community service hours this may be for YOU! Materials will be purchased by Pennington. Contact Mrs. Bosse for more information.
