Muskego Lakes Family Newsletter
October 2018
Huge Thanks to You
We also want to thank those of you who joined us for our Ribbon Cutting & Community Open House and Grade Level Cookouts in August, as well as our Back to School Night and Comedy Sports night in September.
We recognize how critical your partnership and support is as we nurture a school where students feel they belong, are connected to peers, and are known by us. Thank you for trusting us to spend our days with your child. We care about each and every student and are here to support them, to encourage them as they work hard toward their goals, and to cheer them on along the way.
Learner Profiles
"My teachers ask me how I learn best."
In order to continue to grow in this area, a team of teachers developed a schoolwide Learner Profile. During the first week of school, every student at Muskego Lakes completed a Learner Profile. One purpose of all students engaging with Learner Profiles is to help teachers better understand students as learners and individuals. However, the Learner Profiles go much deeper than that. Learner Profiles create a picture of who each learner is. The Learner Profiles document past experiences and successes. As students better understand who they are as learners, they will use their Profile to determine what suits them best in classes as well as set goals. Learner profiles will evolve as students learn more about themselves as learners. Learner profiles will be a great conversation piece when teachers ask students how they learn best. We encourage you to ask the same question of your child. So, consider asking your child if you can see his or her Learner Profile. You will learn more about your child as a learner and help them continue to develop a sense of who they are as learners.
Increasing Co-Curricular Involvement at MLMS
Last year, 47% of our students participated in at least one co-curricular (including athletics). This year, our goal is for 60% of our students to participate in at least one co-curricular. Thanks for partnering with us by helping our students feel connected at their school!
Ski & Snowboard Club at MLMS
Muskego Lakes will offer the opportunity for 5th – 8th grade students to participate in the Ski & Snowboard Club. The cost is $324 (or $216 if your child owns his/her own skis). The cost includes: six trips, one free lesson, student ID card, coach bus transportation, and a club shirt. The listed cost does not include a required $10 helmet fee for each visit (or students can bring their own). Each Tuesday afternoon we will depart school by 2:45PM and return to school promptly at 8:00PM. Your student will be dismissed from class by 2:35PM to arrive to the bus for departure at 2:45PM. We will arrive back to school at 8:00PM. Please make sure your child has a ride home.
Students can pick up the Ski & Snowboard Club registration packet in Student Services starting October 2nd. The forms are due by the end of the day on Thursday, October 11th.
