FREE/REDUCED LUNCH STATUS - VERY IMPORTANT
This waiver ends May 27. Any student whose family has not completed the free/reduced lunch forms for this school year or who has not completed direct certification will immediately be charged full prices for breakfast and lunch if he/she is attending summer school.
It is extremely important for ALL families to complete the free/reduced lunch forms immediately to avoid these costs. Many, many families qualify for this benefit without realizing they do. Cost of living has risen significantly over the last few years - if we can assist with this - please let us help. We will have tables set up at every event to help families from now until the end of the school year.
A new form will have to be completed for the 2022-2023 school year after July 1st. The application is available at the following link: https://myschoolapps.com/Application

WHAT'S HAPPENING IN PE THIS WEEK?
Students will be working on their striking skills using short handed and long handed implements in all grade levels. They will get to use paddles, baseball bats and tees, and hockey sticks in a variety of ways and games. Striking using short-handed and long-handed implements can really help develop your child(s) fundamental movement skills such as their running speed, agility, balance, and hand-eye coordination. During this unit, it is extremely important that your child comes to PE class equipped with the proper clothing to participate safely. Now that the weather is getting nicer out, please make sure that your child comes with the proper clothes and shoes for PE class. No sandals, flip flops, crocs, or boots of any kind preferably.
WHAT'S HAPPENING IN ART THIS WEEK?
We have been continuing work on our ceramics projects. Some classes are working on glazing their projects, while others have finished and are working on new projects.
Kindergarten - Butterfly: I can paint texture. I can cut and glue.
1st grade - Hot Air Balloons: I can make patterns with lines and shapes. I can cut and glue.

4th grade - Animal Bobble Head: I can use various clay sculpting techniques to create a sculpture.
5th & 6th - Box: I can use slabs to create a sculpture. I can use various tools and techniques to add to my sculpture.
Please ask your student about their project, they should be very proud of their work.
UPCOMING BAND CONCERT!!
From Mike McBain, LSE's band teacher:
It's almost time for our annual "Cavalcade of Bands" concert. This performance will be Monday, April 25th at Lee's Summit High School. * Not North and Not West* LSHS - 400 SE Blue Parkway by the Highway Patrol.
5th Grade Band performs at 6pm - meet at 5:50pm in the LSHS Field House (the big gym)
6th Grade Band performs at 8pm - meet at 7:50pm in the LSHS Field House (the big gym)
This concert also combines other elementary band classes from across the district so there will be a "field trip" rehearsal earlier that day at LSHS to practice with the other students. Permission slips will be coming home soon.
For the concert, students should wear their grey band shirt with jeans.
All band students are expected to stay for both concerts in their entirety. Please email me directly if you have any questions at mike.mcbain@lsr7.net
New start times for 2022-23 school year
Lee's Summit Elementary’s school schedule is changing next year. Starting next year, our students will start classes at 9:10 a.m. and finish school at 4:10 p.m. Please check your inbox for an email from Executive Director of Public Relations Katy Bergen explaining why a shift in our schedule is important to our priority of safely transporting district students to school. The change puts us on the same schedule as 11 other elementary schools in the district and also impacts Greenwood Elementary.
New 2022-23 start time: 9:10 a.m.
New 2022-23 end time: 4:10 p.m.
Office Hours will be 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
Planning for Next Year!
WE NEED YOUR HELP GETTING STUDENTS TO SCHOOL DAILY AND ON TIME!
Please work to get your children to school on time and get them to school each day! When students are late or miss school all together, they miss valuable instruction time. Students can enter the building at 8:10 each morning. They are considered tardy at 8:25. We really need your help in getting your children to school on time. This helps get their day started off in a positive way. Most of our classroms start the day with a short family meeting to discuss current events, social emotional well skills, or classroom expectations. They move right into instruction of math or reading immediately. It is imperative your children are at school on time!
WE KNOW TIMES ARE HARD FOR SOME OF OUR FAMILIES! USE OUR PANTRY!
Did you know LSE has a food pantry and clothing closet? Last year we collaborated with our district facilities department and the Summit Church to convert one of our storage rooms into this space! This fall the Summit Church built us an amazing shelving system for shoes, clothes and coats so that we could stay organized!
If you have needs for winter coats, jackets, shoes, socks, or clothing, please do not hesitate to reach out to our front office! We can schedule a time for you to come in through our gym door and help you find what you need!
We also have a food pantry for non-perishable food items. We use these items to fill our two pantries out front but also can help families that may need food!
We accept donations too! We especially need nonperishable food items, self care items such as shampoo, conditioner, toothpaste, deodorant, and bath soap!
Call our front office if we can be of assistance or to drop off donations! 816-986-3340.
