Principals' Post
Hello Panther Families,
Halloween is coming! We have included our annual parade and parties information in this issue of the Family Focus. Be sure to scroll down to read all about Halloween at Glen Oaks School!
The month of October is National Bully Prevention Month. We have many activities planned this month to continue to promote kindness, caring, and respect throughout Glen Oaks School. We continue to educate our students about appropriate peer relationships and how to approach situations where they might need to protect themselves or friends.
Parents and school personnel are the most powerful defense against bullying. On-going conversations with trusted adults about how to interact with peers, how to respond to potential negative interactions, and how to report situations where they might need help are crucial.
Our goal is to provide a safe and caring learning environment for ALL of our students. As always, if you need to report a situation or need additional support, please reach out to child’s teacher(s), our school Social Workers (Mrs. Rotsch or Mrs. Blackstone) or either one of us. Together, we can make a difference!
Family Reading Night was a HUGE hit! Thank you to all of our families who attended this RECORD BREAKING event! Not only did we have our largest number of families attending, but we raised the largest amount of money for charity - over $550 will be donated to the Pawsitive Therapy Group. This was the therapy dog group who hosted our "Read to the Dogs" room. Thank you all for attending and supporting this wonderful charity - we hope you enjoy the photos of our Family Reading Night event that are included below.
As always, we hope you enjoy our most recent Reader's Feature video!

Glen Oaks is extremely honored to have received a SECOND National Blue Ribbon - and we are ready to celebrate! Mark your calendars to join us on Tuesday, November 19th at 6:00pm in the Glen Oaks APR for a Blue Ribbon celebration reception and stay for the School Board Meeting at 7:00pm, which will also be hosted in the Glen Oaks APR. During the Board Meeting, we will be celebrating our wonderful school and highlighing many of our "Blue Ribbon" qualities!
We are seeking volunteers to help us document this historic celebration! We are looking to collect video testimonials of parents, students, and staff regarding what sets Glen Oaks apart as a Blue Ribbon School. This information will be compiled into a documentary video, which will be shown at the November School Board meeting. Please email kreingruber@npd117.net with any information you would like to share.
Halloween at Glen Oaks School
On Thursday, October 31, 2019, Glen Oaks School will hold our annual Halloween parade and parties. Students are encouraged to bring a costume. If the weather permits, we are planning to parade outside. In the event of inclement weather, students will parade through the APR for parent viewing.
Students are to bring their costumes to school and will have time prior to the parade to change into their costumes. Please adhere to the following costume guidelines:

No costumes or makeup are to be worn to school.
Hair MUST be styled before coming to school.
No suggestive or violent costumes are allowed.
