January NEWS
Mark Your Calendar: No School in session on Monday, February 6th.
Cold and Wet Weather: Just a reminder that we make every attempt to get kids outside for recess. If the temperature, including wind-chill, is above 0 the kids will go out. With this in mind, please be sure to send all winter clothing each day. Sometimes the temperature changes quickly and in the middle of lunch recess it warms up. We will then send the kids outdoors.
Our weather lately has not been cold but extremely wet. We remind kids to stay as dry as possible when playing outside but that doesn't always happen, especially when the snow is wet. Please make it a point to dry snow pants, jackets, mittens, and hats nightly. I realize that boots can't always be put in dryers so place them somewhere near a heat vent to allow for the best possible drying situation. We encourage you to send an extra set of socks and maybe even pants just in case they get wet during the day as we don't have enough extra clothes for everyone.
School Calendar The office has received several phone calls regarding our school calendar. We do have a calendar on our school's web page @ http://www.ocontofalls.k12.wi.us/aes/calendars.cfm
The current year calendar is posted as well as next year's calendar.
PRINCIPAL'S CORNER
This week was our first live announcements and awards assembly. It was awesome to be able to recognize a few of our outstanding students. There are many others yet to recognize and we will. This was our first of many. I loved making phone calls home to invite parents to school for something fun and exciting. I can't wait for the next one. Congrats to Tim Cornette for doing the announcements live in front of the entire school. He did a great job!
The staff took part in some professional learning on Monday of this week when students were off of school. It is exciting to see all staff in our district learning together about technology, Literacy, Math, and so much more. This is just one small way we work together to offer a better learning environment for your kids.
We now have had our 3rd SNOW DAY! The school board will be discussing, at its next meeting, how to make up one of the days missed so far. As soon as they make a decision, it will be communicated with families.
Earlier this month I talked about how a small change in procedures, setting up an appointment, was going to help me be more accessible to families, staff and students. Please always know that I am here to help and assist you and your family in any way possible. Remember, I am asking our school community to allow me to be a little less accessible immediately in the office so that I can be much more powerfully accessible to the staff and students where it matters in the classroom. Please contact Mrs. Bauer or Mrs. Radke if you need to speak to me and they will be happy to set up a time that we can talk as soon as possible. I really appreciate everyone's willingness to make this adjustment so that I can be much more powerfully accessible to the staff and students where it matters in the classroom.
Just a reminder that school hours are 7:50 AM - 2:55 PM. Students are marked tardy after 7:55 AM.
Please be sure to contact me with any questions or concerns you may have.
Mrs. Michalski

Notes from the Office
Open Enrollment: This year's Open Enrollment application period will take place between February 1st and April 28th. The Wisconsin Open Enrollment program allows children to attend public school in a school district other than the one in which they live. Early and late applications will not be accepted. Parents may apply online at http://oe.dpi.wi.gov. If you do not have access to a computer, call or stop in at the district office. If your child is currently attending under Open Enrollment, it is not necessary to complete an application form; your child will remain an active student through 12th grade.
Skyward/Family Access-Login and Password: Skyward is the program our district uses to keep track of student information. Every family has a login and password which will allow them to gain access to their students' general information, attendance, grades, food service information and much more. You may access this website through the district's homepage at www.ocontofalls.k12.wi.us. Click on Family/Student Access, enter your login id and password. If you do not have a login and password please call the school office at 920-826-5819, ext. 0.
Calling all 4K Students! Pre-registration letters will be sent out by the beginning of February to all the families on our census list who have children eligible to attend 4K next fall. 3rd Grade: Mrs. Baade's and Mrs. Ingold's third grade classes are putting the finishing touches on their informative writing pieces in Writers' Workshop. The students have written their own "books" including a Table of Contents, headings, and other nonfiction text features. While writing can be hard work, the third graders have learned so much!
Music: 1st grade is finishing up their Old Mac Donald compositions in music this week.
Some students chose to create a mystery animal for the farm.
Art: Hello Abrams Families! Time for the next Family Art Night on Thursday, February 9th, 2017, from 5:30pm - 7pm in the Art Room. We will be making Valentines. There is no cost for this program, but we are asking that you do register so we have enough supplies. Students with their parents can arrive between 5:30pm and 6:45pm, and can leave with their Valentine when they are finished (they do not have to be there the entire time). Paper registration forms will be sent out soon, but I am also taking email registrations (I just need family name, email address and how many are attending),
sent to: Kim.Seizyktrudell@of-ps.org. Thank you & hope to see you there!

Mrs. Ingram's Classroom: Mrs. Ingram's 4th-grade class celebrated the end of their first physical science chapter by creating a solution. They mixed water, baking cocoa, vanilla, and sweetened condensed milk to make homemade hot cocoa in a crock pot. Everyone enjoyed their special treat while watching a short video that taught them even more about solids, liquids, and gasses.
What's Happening With the CPTO....
Box Tops, Milk Caps, and Shoparoo: Abrams Elementary CPTO has a collection container in the lobby for Box Tops and milk caps. Please keep collecting these items and send them to school. Box Tops are worth 10 cents each. We are also collecting MILK MOOLA caps from Kwik Trip. Each cap is worth 5 cents, the caps are found on all Kwik Trip milk, creamers, and orange juice containers. Please wash the caps/box tops and place them inside a baggie before sending them to school.
Shoparoo is a free app that used receipt information to benefit our school. All you need to do is download the app on your phone. Then you take a picture of your shopping, dining, and gas receipts and follow the app's instructions.
The money used from these items is used for field trips, CPTO sponsored events and playground equipment.
Spring Bookfair: Happy Camper S'more fun with books is Thursday, April 6th. This book fair is the “buy one get one free” book fair. Please contact Ashley McDermid to volunteer at aemcdermid@gmail.com
Dental Health Day : February 17th, sponsored by the CPTO.
CPTO Meeting: The next CPTO meeting is Monday, February 13, @ 6:15 pm in the Library.
