Helping Hands

Just a reminder, Blackburn Elementary is working on a new community outreach project to give back to students at our own school during the holiday season. I am very excited about it and will be participating myself! A letter explaining the program and the specific needs for each grade level was sent home last week as well as this Friday (12.4) The deadline to send in items is Friday, December 11th. I hope you will take the opportunity to give back (if you are able) and thanks so much to those of you who have already sent things in - I know those families will be extremely appreciative of your generosity.

Math and Science

This week in math we spent some time reviewing some curriculum we are collectively struggling with including: rounding, mixed operation word problems, and multiplication comparisons (which allowed for a small division break). We concluded the week with some additional practice with long division, specifically focusing on interpreting remainders as they relate to specific types of problems (i.e. fractions if we're dividing food, change if we're dividing money, left over pieces if we're discussing dividing something into specific size pieces, etc.) and our Unit 7 Post Test on Thursday (12.3).

Due to my own absences at the beginning of this week and in an effort to complete our long division study, our science studies were placed on hold this week. However, because of these factors, students did have an opportunity to work on catching up a bit in social studies.

The Leader in Me

Having now successfully spent a week working with each habit individually, we are now proceeding to begin integrating all seven habits into our daily school lifestyle when and where appropriate. This week I would like to recognize Camryn as being a shining example of a leader!
