HIGHLIGHTS OF REGULAR SCHOOL BOARD MEETING FROM APRIL 20
At the school board regular meeting April 20, the school board approved the PPEL and SAVE budgets. There were no public comments for the public hearing on the amended budget.
Community members spoke about baseball and softball facilities and the school board gave some history on bond capacity and why a baseball/softball complex was not included in the March 2 bond referendum. The District determined in early November 2021 that adding the complex or other projects to the bond would put the district at or over bonding capacity. The school board has been setting aside $250,000 per year for baseball/softball facilities and has $1.25 million set aside. They agreed to increase the contribution to $500,000 for the 2022-2023 school year. Construction costs have continued to increase and the plans for the complex have changed over the years due to planned future academic additions to the south end of the high school. Board president Kara Prickett spoke of an organized group effort to gather information, vet ideas, and develop a plan. "We will outline a charter and scope, key elements, and timelines to guide the group". Once a plan is in place more information will be shared to parents, community members and staff.
UPDATE ON HIGH SCHOOL CONSTRUCTION PROGRESS
The last 2017 bond referendum project is close to completion!! The high school addition adds 13 classrooms and a commons area for student collaboration. The addition will bring the high school to 1,200 student capacity and is slated to be completed in May.
