Weekly Message
Dear Raleigh Hills Families and Community Members,
We know that this can a very stressful time for families as you're hearing the news about Coronavirus each day. Thank you for reading the daily messages that are coming from the district about ways they are working to keep us safe and up to date. Continue to monitor the CDC website as that is the most current and accurate information that is available.
Here at Raleigh Hills, we are increasing our talk about the importance of washing hands and coughing into your elbow rather than on your hands. Our custodians are increasing cleaning of high traffic areas (doorknobs, light switches and railings) We also have hand sanitizer available for students as we let them wash their hands as needed.
One of the ways you can help us is to be on the lookout for additional hand sanitizer and send it in as you can. Right now there is some price gouging going on. Most stores are responsible and are putting it out as it comes into the stores for a reasonable price. If you see any while you are out and would like to donate it to the school, we would be very appreciative.
Below are some resources that might be good for you as you talk with your children about this tricky topic. Students look to you for how to respond. If you are calm and informative, they will be calm as well. Thank you for partnering with us to navigate this concern.

6th Grade Jump Start at Whitford - SAVE THE DATE!
What: 6th Grade Jump Start (Evening event for 5th graders attending Whitford in the fall of 2020 and their families - childcare provided)
Why: Help parents and students feel more confident about the transition to middle school, empowering parents to make thoughtful decisions about the digital aspects of middle school
When: Tuesday, May 26, 2020 6-7:30pm (Food provided)
Where: Whitford
Who: Parents and students who will be attending Whitford, however, all are welcome who would find value in the event.
5th grade families have a unique opportunity this Spring to Jump Start into 6th Grade. Whitford is partnering with the Digital Curriculum TOSAs from Teaching & Learning to bring important information to families before they begin middle school.
This event will focus on helping parents understand the digital aspects of this next phase of their child’s education; empowering parents to set routines around Chromebooks in the home and with digital citizenship resources. Parents will get accounts for Canvas and ParentVue (if they don’t already have them), and an emphasis will be put on the importance of being connected to communication from teachers to support their student.
5th graders are also included in this event. We will speak to them about digital citizenship and routines, as well as give them some time to learn about/navigate Canvas, combination lock practice, and reading a middle school schedule.
Spanish and Arabic interpreters will be available.
Looking forward to seeing your families soon,
Brian Peerenboom

VOLUNTEER SHOUT OUT
VIRGINIA CODY. Virginia is amazed at how much Raleigh Hills students come eager to learn. She says the special thing about Raleigh Hills is that the students are happy and friendly. A retired teacher, Virginia comes to the school on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays to tutor students in math. She loves working with 4th and 5th graders because she says they are so funny and very thoughtful about math concepts and many other things. The highlight of Virginia’s day is coming to volunteer at Raleigh Hills. Let’s give Virginia Cody a Shout Out!
Panther Pacers is coming!!!!
The week after Spring Break, Panther Pacers will begin. For 10 weeks, students will have the option of running laps around our new track during their recess. They will earn a token foot necklace for their first mile, then a foot for every mile thereafter. Last year, we had several students run the equivalent of a marathon by the last day! If they run at least one lap every week, they will earn a special tennis shoe token. We need helpers to tally laps and hand out mile tokens. Shifts are 30 minutes between 10:30-12:30. Here are those links:
Thank you,
