The Trail of Tears
Indian Removal Act of 1830
The Indian Removal Act (passed by Andrew Jackson) had authorized him to make the Native Americans move into unsettled land so that he could take theirs. Many white people at this time wanted the lands that the Indians had because there was gold found which made land valuable. After the act was passed the Cherokee were forced out with just what they had on them at that moment even though many of them had resisted.
