Distance Learning for All
May 7, 2020
There are five weeks left in the 2019-20 school year. While we would normally be preparing end-of-the-year celebrations and making a push to finish the school year strong, we are experiencing something none of us could have anticipated. It is difficult for our schools to be shuttered and for our students to be learning from home, instead of in their classrooms with their friends, looking forward to those end-of-the-year milestones.
While we are facing these challenges together, I am hopeful that the learning taking place at home will be remembered as a time when we handled a difficult moment in the best ways possible. Although it is not ideal, there are opportunities to learn things at home that typically are not taught in a classroom. Children are resilient. While I know this may have a lasting impact on them, I am hopeful that grit, determination, and perseverance are skills they develop during this time away from school.
As we look ahead to next year, we understand that the global pandemic may continue to impact our teaching and learning model. We are looking at how best to ensure every student in grades k-5 has a device and wifi connectivity. We need to continue to develop meaningful learning opportunities for all students to access outside of their schools.
Finally, I appreciate all of our hard-working staff. They are working to keep students connected to their learning and doing all they can to support parents. They are doing all of this while juggling responsibilities at home, often the care of their own children. Your partnership and understanding are part of what make this Distance Learning model possible. I am grateful for this collaboration.
As we honor all the mothers in our lives this weekend, we celebrate the care and compassion they provide during this difficult time. I hope the nice weather and time together as a family makes it a Mother's Day to remember.
Best,
Trip Goodall

Last Day of School
The last day of school for K-11 students is June 10, 2020. As we look ahead to the 2020-21 school year, please note that classes are scheduled to begin BEFORE Labor Day. You can view the school year calendars here.
Spring & Summer Driver Education Canceled
Due to COVID-19 and Oregon Governor Kate Brown's Executive Order, driver education cannot go on as planned. All spring and summer sessions are canceled.
If we are able to provide driver education in the fall, students who were registered for the spring session will be contacted first to enroll. After that, summer students will have a chance to enroll in any remaining fall class slots.
Thank you for your understanding during these difficult times.

PARKING LOT HOT SPOTS
Good news! In partnership with Clackamas County, Carus Elementary and Ninety-One School will both have parking lot hot spots in the coming weeks. We'll let you know when they're up and running so you can take advantage of this free resource.
Free Meals Delivered to Students
Our nutrition services department is hard at work, continuing to provide free breakfast and lunch to children in the community between the ages of 1-18. Since the state-mandated school closure, we have served nearly 50,000 meals.
You can find out more about the free meal program on our website.
While all meals are free, you may want to consider applying for free or reduced-price school meals if your financial situation has changed. This week, the Oregon Department of Education and the Department of Human Services announced plans to give money for meals (EBT cards) to families with children eligible for free or reduced-price school meals, even if they have received meals from the school since buildings closed in March. The benefits are equivalent of the price of one free lunch and one free breakfast for each eligible child.
You can apply for free or reduced-priced meals here. If you need additional meal support for your family, visit www.needfood.oregon.gov or call 2-1-1.
BOND MEASURE 3-559
In February, the Canby School District Board of Directors unanimously voted to refer a $75 million bond to voters on May 19, 2020. The bond was filed before Oregon Governor Kate Brown ordered schools to close for the remainder of the 2019-20 school year.
Earlier in the year, a community-led committee determined the scope of the bond and made a recommendation to the Board. The Board then decided it would move forward with the bond.
You will see the bond on your mail-in ballot, which is due by 8pm on Tuesday, May 19, 2020. Watch the video below to learn more about Measure 3-559.
KINDERGARTEN REGISTRATION
We are moving to ONLINE registration for incoming students for the 2020-21 school year. You can register online now.
If you have an incoming kindergarten student, we are hosting a virtual "Kindergarten Kickoff" on May 20 at 6pm. This will be an interactive Zoom Webinar where you can ask questions, meet your child's principal, and learn more about registration.
