Week 1 Term 4

Principals Report

Dear Families,

Welcome back! It is lovely to see all of the children's smiling faces after the holidays. We are looking forward to an exciting and busy term with the easing of COVID restrictions.

We are excited to welcome several new families to our school and have had lots of interest for 2021. It is exciting to see the amount of interest in both high school and kindergarten for 2021 which were of particularly low numbers this year.

Kind regards

Claire Barbosa

Principal

New Canteen Menu

The school canteen is an integral part of the learning environment, and as such should operate in a manner that supports the health messages of curriculum. Schools* are required to follow the Department of Education’s Healthy Food and Drink (HFD) policy.

The HFD policy applies to all areas of the school where the Principal is responsible for the supply of food and drinks. For example, the canteen/food service, classroom rewards, excursions and camps, classroom cooking activities and school based fundraising. Principals are encouraged to promote consistent messages about healthy lifestyles in all school activities.

At Leinster Community School our Canteen is located offsite and food is sourced through the local tavern. There is still an obligation to teach students about healthy eating and follow the healthy eating guidelines. Please see attached the Traffic Light System for schools to follow, our Healthy Eating Policy and new Canteen menu.

I would like to thank the tavern and the P&C who have made these changes possible. Each month there will be a special that will be advertised in the newsletter. We aim to provide a summer and a winter menu in the future and adapt and change in accordance with the children's preference whilst following the traffic light system. Students can order from the new menu from 19 October 2020.

World Teachers Day

Australia will celebrate and thank the teaching profession on World Teachers’ Day - Friday 30 October. [link to www.aitsl.edu.au/wtd]

Teachers (with support from parents and carers) have ensured education continues across the country this year, despite major challenges. It’s reinforced the significant role teachers play in the lives of children and students, their families and communities.

On Friday 30 October, say a big thank you to teachers and celebrate the bright future of teaching. Post a photo in your sunglasses on social media, either on your own or with family or friends. Use these tags on Twitter, Facebook or LinkedIn: #thankteachers #brightfuture @aitsl

Excursions

With the easing of COVID restrictions we would like to organise some excursions this term in Perth and surrounding areas. I would also like to gather together the parents of next years year 6-12 students to discuss the possibility of a camp to Canberra- thoughts and feedback welcome.
