What is Your Calling as a Parent?

For this summer's book club, we'll read and study Parenting: 14 Gospel Principles That Can Radically Change Your Family by Paul David Tripp.

Here's an excerpt from the book jacket:

"In the midst of folding laundry, coordinating carpool schedules, and breaking up fights, many parents get lost. Feeling pressure to do everything "right" and raise up "good" children, it's easy to lose sight of our ultimate purpose as parents in the quest for practical tips and guaranteed formulas. In this life-giving book, Paul Tripp offers parents much more than a to-do list. Instead, he presents us with a big-picture view of God's plan for us as parents. Outlining fourteen foundational principles centered on the Gospel, he shows that we need more than the latest parenting strategy or a list of techniques. Rather, we need the rescuing grace of God---grace that has the power to share how we view everything we do as parents."

The Important Info

Our book club will run for seven weeks, meeting on Mondays except for the very first meeting which is Tuesday, May 26th via Zoom. Since there are fourteen principles, we'll cover two principles (two chapters) each week for a total of seven weeks.

Our goal is to meet in person; however, our local government has instituted guidelines about social get togethers due to COVID-19. For this reason, our first book club meeting in May will be via Zoom. We are hopeful that meetings two through seven in June and July will occur at Wrangler Park in Castle Rock, where we can split up into groups smaller than 10 to discuss the current chapters. We want our kiddos to be able to enjoy the playgrounds, and we are hopeful they will reopen in June. The meeting time will be at 11am. We anticipate book club to begin at 11:15 and run for about an hour. Afterwards we encourage moms to eat lunch and fellowship. Wrangler Park is located near Sage Canyon Elementary School in The Terrain neighborhood. The address is 2418 Autumn Sage St, Castle Rock.

Just Announced ~ True Girl Book Club

This summer's book club will feature a separate book club for young ladies, ages 9-12. My daughter Katelyn will lead the girls in discussing "Yuzi's False Alarm" by Dannah Gresh, found of the True Girls Ministry. "Yuzi's False Alarm" is part of the Secret Keeper Girl series of fictional books. Here's an except about the book....

"Yuzi Ukachi has every right to be mad. Because of her dad's job, their family has moved all over the place, so it's always been tough to make friends. And now his job has landed Yuzi in quite possibly the smallest town on the planet: Marion, Ohio—the Popcorn Capital of the World. Her mom volunteered her to wear a totally embarrassing corncob costume to the Popcorn Festival, and at school she ends up in detention for something she definitely did not do! When she opens up her heart to the three girls she meets in detention, she's invited into the Secret Keeper Girl Club. The club's adventures teach her that revenge isn't always the sweetest end to a story."

Please have your daughter bring the book to each book club meeting starting in June. The girls will not meet during our Zoom call. Here is the link to the book on Amazon
