Sophomore Spotlight: Investing with Ryan James
Sophomore Ryan James has found a passion for the art of investing. During the 2019-2020 school year, he founded the Investment Club to “discuss current events in the market, the basics of investing, and what we are currently doing in the market,” according to Ryan. He shared that the members of the club can also paper trade and compete in local contests. Though the club is sanctioned by the school, they have not been able to meet this year due to the pandemic. However, Ryan did not let that stop him from wanting to share his love for investing, so he started his own newsletter to inform people about all the different aspects of investing. He releases issues twice a month, and Ryan is excited because “it is beginning to gain traction.” He already has 51 subscribers, and his following is growing rapidly. Take a look at the first two editions of the newsletter below, learn all about investing, and give Ryan a follow!

Bulldogs Making a difference
Riviera prides itself on encouraging our well-rounded students to not only excel in their academic studies and extracurricular activities but also positively impact our community. Junior, Alysa Gold, has used her love for animals to make an impact in the world during the COVID-19 pandemic. Alysa started her organization called Ally's Animal Project, which aims to provide aid to animals in need across homes and shelters around the country. During the last year, Ally has dedicated her organization to sending pet food to households across the country that have been affected because of the pandemic. Her efforts reached so many that Ally was highlighted in the New York Times for Kids, a pullout of the regular NYT, in a special issue called, “18 kids who make the world a better place." They have written a short summary about her and her project that has fed over 200 pet families in need during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Inside the Art Studio: Art in motion
Sophomore, Victoria Deutsch is one of Mrs. Parker’s Honors Art students. This week, her assignment was to capture the swift movement of the human figure in a loose gestural sketch. This method of drawing is wonderful when trying to express motion. Victoria spent time last week studying and recording movement, while observing and sketching Miss Rodriguez’s dance class located in the gym. The dancers did 60 second warm-up stretches as Victoria focused on capturing each pose with accurate skeletal framework and loose gestural form.
Here is a short message from Ms. Parker talking about Victoria’s successes: "Victoria did an excellent job with this college level art assignment. She is very passionate about art, does her best work under pressure, and rises to every challenge with great success. Well done Victoria!" -Ms. Parker
