On Wednesday, mother nature cooperated for our first "Walk to School". All Washington students were invited to enjoy an apple from our "Safe Routes to School" Washington coordinator, Heidi Michel, on the 67th Street sidewalk. Thanks, Heidi!
Look for Winter Walk to School on 2/26 and Bike to School on 5/9.
Please send in your PTA dues if you haven't done so already. Thank you for your support of Washington and all our students and staff.
Next week look for our new web-based "Volunteer opportunities" form in an independent email.
School Hours
At 7:45am students are welcome into the school building for the breakfast program. Before that time there is no adult supervision inside/outside the school building.
Official school hours are from 8:20am until 3:20pm (except Wednesday when students are released from school at 2:20pm). Please pick up your children on time and/or encourage them to come home immediately after school.
Science Technology Engineering Process: Hapara Workspace and Google Classroom
4th and 5th grade teachers are being trained to use Hapara Workspaces and Google Classroom within different content areas. Both of these platforms allow for teachers to prepare differentiated lessons while making it easier for the students to stay organized, collaborate with teachers and peers and manage their work. Check out this video to learn more about Hapara.

Upcoming Assessments
PALS Testing (K-2nd) - The State of Wisconsin requires that all districts assess the reading readiness of all children enrolled in four-year-old kindergarten to second grade. Our district will assess our students’ readiness by administering PALS (Phonological Awareness Literacy Screening). For further information please click on the following documents:
MAP Testing:
We give students MAP tests to determine your child’s instructional level and to measure academic growth throughout the school year, and from year to year in the areas of reading and math. SK through 5th grade will use chromebooks in their classrooms to complete the MAP tests.
MAP tests are unique in that they adapt to be appropriate for your child’s level of learning. As a result, each student has the same opportunity to succeed and maintain a positive attitude toward testing. Each school year, students at the elementary level take the tests during Sept/October, January and May. Following each testing period, you will receive a report showing your child’s growth. If you have any questions about MAP testing, please contact your child(ren)’s teacher.
Schedule for MAP Testing @ Washington:
September 25-September 29 Fall MAP – Reading Gr 1 & SK
October 2-October 6 Fall MAP – Reading Gr 2-5
October 9-October 13 Fall MAP – Math Gr 1 & SK
