From the Desk of Shurandia Holden
Hello Boggess Bengals,
We look forward to welcoming you all tonight to our Boggess Open House from 6:00-7:00 PM. Students and staff are excited to showcase some of their work and learning environments.
We have had so much fun this week participating in Read Across America Activities as we work to continue to instill the love of reading in our students. Each day students were encouraged to read a book about a specific theme or genre.
Report Cards will be sent home March 18th for students in grades 3-5.
We were so proud to honor our Science Fair winners this week by presenting medals and trophies. We were excited that so many parents were able to join us for this special presentation. Please scroll below for photos.
Our Student Council completed the Cause “Fur” Paws project and delivered the donated items to the Murphy Animal Shelter. Thank you to our Boggess community for your generous donations. Students did a wonderful job on their first project.
A huge thank you to Plano East ROTC for working with our Student Council on proper etiquette of raising and lowering the flags. Students had the opportunity to ask questions and practice folding the flags as well. Please scroll below to see photos.
We have seen an increase in the number of text messages and phone calls students are receiving on communication devices during instruction time at school. The calls and text messages are disruptive to the learning environment and a distraction for your child. We ask that you contact the front office if you need to get a message to your child. Thank you for your help in preserving instruction time.
Spring Break is March 7th-11th. I hope you enjoy your time with family. School resumes Monday, March 14th.
Touching hearts and minds,
Shurandia Holden

TELPAS Testing
Spring 2022
Texas students who are designated as Limited English Proficient (LEP) are assessed annually for progress in learning the English language. In response to federal testing requirements of the Every Student Succeeds Act of 2015 (ESSA), the Texas Education Agency (TEA) has developed the Texas English Language Proficiency Assessment System (TELPAS). This system consists of reading tests, listening and speaking tests and holistically rated assessments of listening, speaking, reading (for K-1 students), and writing (for grades 2-12).
TELPAS is administered to all LEP students, including LEP students who do not participate in a bilingual or English as a second language (ESL) program because of parental denial.
The TELPAS Reading is a state-level measure of current reading proficiency levels and annual progress in learning to read English. Holistic ratings are teacher assessments of writing in grades 2-12 and listening, speaking, reading, and writing in grades K-1. Together they provide an annual measure of student growth.
Students at Boggess will take:
TELPAS Reading between February 23rd-March 4th.
TELPAS Listening and Speaking Tests between March 15th-24th.
A trained certified rater will rate your child using the holistic TELPAS observation assessment system between March 28th-31st.
After June 3, 2022 parents/guardians can go to the TEA Texas Assessment Data Portal http://texasassessment.com to access the Student Report Card which is the official score report provided by the state. As always, we wish to keep parents involved and informed about student programs. Please contact Jill MacLaughlin (jill.maclaughlin@pisd.edu) if you have any questions.
