SMCM MAT Alumni Newsletter
May 2014
How many more days until summer vacay??
As we here in EdStudies have been administering finals, preparing for graduation, and gearing up for Master's Research Projects (tweet us @SMCMEdStudies any sage advice to share with the cohort about MRPs!), you are probably prepping for your end of the year as well!
How do you prepare for the end of the school year?
- Are you a list-maker, outlining everything you need to do to say goodbye to your students and classroom?
- Do you plan a ton of fun (yet educational!) activities?
- Do you open up a big can of tough love on your students to push them to do their best??
Whatever your system is, I hope that you felt appreciated during Teacher Appreciation Week (and every day, really!) and that you are excited for that last few weeks of the school year. Does it always go by so fast??
Remember to share with me all of your Good News/Fun News and the Teacher Openings that you hear about!

Teaching Opportunities
- From Laurie Hammond, MAT '10: "I have been working for Connections Education since 2011. I began as a Temporary Employee in their Curriculum Department from January-April 2011, and then I transitioned to their Academic Placement Department the following summer. From there, I started as an Academic Placement Advisor working with families who are in the enrollment process for our virtual schools (available in 26 states). Within the department, we review the academic documentation in order to place the students into their appropriate courses. We also have a phone queue which our Advisors are a part of which allows families to call in to discuss the needed documentation. In July 2012, I transitioned into a Lead Advisor role focusing on Special Education students. Then, this month, I became one of the managers of the department. There are even several other St. Mary's alumni who work for the company, including two of our team members (Samantha James and Larry Petruccy, both Senior Managers of the Academic Placement Department)."
In the Academic Placement Department, we currently have job openings for both regular and temporary positions. They can be found on our website at www.connectionsacademy.com or by following this link.
