Arrival/Dismissal Information
Students are welcome to eat breakfast on our campus and can come as early as 7:35 through the main entrance.
Carpool unloading will begin at 7:45am. Students may enter the building at 7:45 and line up in grade level clusters in the rotunda until the 7:50 bell rings.
When dropping off your student(s), please be sure you pull all the way up to the bike racks and unload along the curbside. If your car is stopped anywhere down the curbside area, your student should exit the vehicle.
There is only ONE lane for morning carpool along the curb. This is for student safety. Children SHOULD NOT cross the street without guardian or unload in other areas.
If you are walking your student in, you must park and walk across street at the crosswalk only when the car line is at a stop. Follow all directions and signage from Mahaffey staff members.
Back of School Drop-Off:
The only vehicles permitted to drop off in the rear of the school are:
-Klein ISD Transportation
-Private Day Care Drop-Off
-Campus Kids (prior to 7:45)
-Special Needs students in our Early Childhood or Developmental Classes (siblings of these students are permitted if necessary and cleared by administration)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Dismissal:
If your child will be going home a different way, please let the FRONT OFFICE and your child's TEACHER know right away. Telling the teacher is wonderful, but sometimes they can't check voicemail or email until it is after school-so your best option is always the main front office.
We ask that you have the call made by 2:30pm. If messages are not cleared or given in time, please know the teachers are trained to send kids home their regular way unless told otherwise by administration. We CANNOT take a child's word for it when it comes to leaving school safely.
Afternoon Carpool:
Car riders will be given a car rider number for parents to display on their rear view mirror during pick up. If you are sending someone different to pick up your child, please alert the front office and have number displayed. We will not release students to any person not on emergency card unless authorization is given by the primary custodial parent.
All car riders will be picked up in the front parking lot. Two lines will form in front of the school. It is imperative that you follow all Mahaffey employee instructions for efficiency and safety purposes.
*Kinder parents, please work with your student on knowing their numbers so they are able to get in the car and keep the line flowing faster.* Thank you!
Bus and Day Care:
Bus riders and day cares are dismissed in the back of the school and loaded with teacher supervision. Please note that once children are on the bus, they must follow the bus route to the designated drop off assigned by Klein ISD Transportation. Kindergarten and 1st grade students should have guardian present at bus stop for pick up.
Afternoon Early Childhood/Developmental Pick-Up:
If your student does not ride the Klein ISD bus, you may pick them up in the back of the school in the designated lane near the basketball goals and fire lane. Please see signage and communicate with the teacher your daily transportation plan.
Walkers/Bikers:
Walkers will be dismissed and are encouraged to walk straight home. Kinder students must have a adult present at pick up or an assigned adult or older sibling escort noted at the front office and with the teacher.
We encourage you to talk with your students about the safety and responsibility of walking to/from school.
Campus Kids:
Campus kids are picked up in the back of the school at the cafeteria entrance. A Campus Kids employee will greet you and follow their sign out procedures. If picking up from Campus Kids prior to Klein ISD buses leaving campus you must park vehicle and walk in. DO NOT block buses or the drive lane.
Please note that Campus Kids is a third party day care that rents Mahaffey property. Even if a child is going to Campus Kids for the afternoon, the front office should be made aware.
This is a great, convenient child care option located at Mahaffey and worth looking into for our working families.
Message from Mrs. Mason
Happy September Scotties!
It has been an INCREDIBLE start to an amazing school year. I can't believe we are already two weeks in and doing such amazing things already! This will, without a doubt, be the best year yet.
My favorite part of being principal, is being able to share the great things going on on our campus. I am ecstatic to share that our accountability ratings from last year are THROUGH THE ROOF! We would not be able to be as successful so fast without your support at home and encouraging your students to always push hard and try their best. In the image below is a brief summary of our success. We MET STANDARD with an overall score of 94! That is plain fantastic! Our most exciting accomplishment was the PERFECT score we received in the area of GROWTH for ALL of our students!!
Mahaffey is a special and unique place. I love that we get the opportunity to educate and grow such a diverse population of students. We are building well rounded students with experiences that mirror the population of our every day working community.
Many exciting things are coming to Mahaffey this year. Be on the lookout for information about Parent University and how you can be a member. Read below about our Community Circles that we will experience each week to build our relationships together. And also, take a look at our new "Scotties on the Move!" outreach plan and where you can find us next!
Thank you, again, for all you to do to make Mahaffey the greatest school around!
My admin team and I are always here to support our community and families. Please don't hesitate to contact us if you have any questions, comments or concerns.
Thank you,
Holly Mason, Principal
Charla Wilson, Assistant Principal
Jonathan Harvell, Assistant Principal
