Office Assistant of the Day

Avery Jennings worked as an Office Assistant on Wednesday of this week. Her parents bid on this prize at the Van Alstyne Education Foundation Gala earlier this semester. Avery loved answering the phone and realized just how difficult Mrs. Jackson's position can be on a given day. Avery did a fantastic job!

Principal's Pulse

We have enjoyed a great week of learning with our students. We had students who pretended to be students during the pioneer era, and we had students experiencing a real Texas rodeo for the first time. We have had exciting activities happening all over campus.

Our students loved participating in Buddy Day with their friends from the High School. We want to take this opportunity to say how grateful we are to the PALS and Ready, Set, Teach programs at the High School as they benefit our elementary students by showing them positive role models. Thank you to all of our parents who donated items for the day of fun.

Thank you to the parents who were able to attend the Brown Bag Lunch this week. Dr. Spies discussed the decision-making process for the need of a second elementary school as our enrollment grows along with the reasons for considering specific grade level configurations. On Monday, June 20th, there will be another opportunity for parents to hear this information from Dr. Spies and to share their opinions as well. Come join us at the High School in the multipurpose room at 7:00 p.m. for a public forum on this topic immediately before the normally scheduled School Board meeting.

Please make plans to attend our informal awards ceremonies on June 1st during your child's specials time. Please see the specific information listed below in the newsletter.

Thank you for continuing to support your children in their education even to the last day by reading with them each night, getting to bed as close to normal bedtime as possible and eating a healthy breakfast. Keeping the usual routines going for your child can help them be more successful during the day.

As a reminder, we have another school holiday on Monday as we did not use the day as a bad weather day this year. Enjoy your time together as a family during this extended time.

VAULT Students Travel Back in Time

Our VAULT students had the opportunity to attend school as if they were pioneers this week to truly experience what life might have been like during that time period. The students had such a wonderful time they were a bit disappointed to return to 2016.

Important Cafeteria Information

Van Alstyne ISD Child Nutrition wants to give parents a friendly reminder that starting on April 29, 2016, students will not be allowed to charge meals for the remainder of the school year. This is to ensure Child Nutrition has all account balances in the positive. If you have any questions please call Elementary Cafeteria Manager Stephanie Lewis. We appreciate your understanding and patience with this situation. (903)482-8830

Please ensure your child's immunizations are up to date!

Students must have all immunizations current in order to be placed on a class list for the 2016-2017 school year. Please see the information below to determine which immunization(s) your child may need. For our campus, this mostly affects incoming Pre-K and Kinder students.
