No Excuses: Going the Extra Mile!

PTSA receives grant

Aycock Middle School’s PTSA recently received a Fuel Up to Play 60 grant award. The grant is for $4,000 and will be used by the PTSA, the PE Department, and the Cafeteria to benefit the physical fitness and nutrition levels of all AMS students. The FUTP60 program is all about exposing students to the benefits of nutrient rich foods and fun physical activities while encouraging them to be leaders and make healthy choices. Specific plans for the use of funds include a dairy bar in the cafeteria, food for taste test activities (veggies, fruits, smoothies), a bike rack to encourage students to ride to school, physical fitness equipment for both PE and student clubs, and equipment for the cafeteria.

Free Online Courses

GCS will offer FREE online courses to middle school students. These courses will introduce students to the online learning environment, and teach them the necessary skills to be successful in the online setting (i.e.-time management, communication skills, reading and writing, etc.). The courses will be taught and led by GCS middle-school teachers. Interested students will take the courses on their own after school, in addition to the classes they are taking this year. The courses are pass-fail and will not count on a student’s report card or academic record. Students need a computer (or tablet) and Internet access to participate. Please click the Peachjar eflyer at the bottom of the page for more information.
