Early Release Fall 2020

Early Release Days are next week on Wednesday, October 21st and Thursday, October 22nd. The students will be dismissed at 12:50 pm. Be sure to have someone at the bus stop or in the car rider lane at the appropriate pick up time. Our dismissal car rider lane will be open from 12:50 pm to 1:20 pm.

Parent Conferences Fall 2020

Parent Conferences will be held the week of October 19th. We will release from school early on October 21st and 22nd beginning at 12:50 pm so that teachers can meet virtually with parents. Parent Conferences will be held over Zoom this year. You should have already received an email from your child's teacher with the sign-up link. Once you sign up for a time with your child's teacher, you will receive a confirmation email with the Zoom link included. For help on using Sign Up Genius, please see the attached parent guide.

Parent Preference for 2nd Semester Learning

Beginning October 28, Gwinnett parents and guardians will make a decision about how their children will learn during the second semester. Like this semester, families may select either in-person instruction at their child’s school or digital learning at home. As students and families are more familiar with these two options and what they entail, the decisions families make will be for the entire semester. The Spring Instructional Preference Questionnaire will be available in your Parent Portal account October 28 through 11:59 p.m. on November 15. If you do not have a Parent Portal account, please go to the school district website for information or contact your local school to request one. We will remind you on October 28 that the window for making your family’s decision regarding second semester is open.

Calendar Preference for SY2021-2022

It's time for the Parsons' community to determine our preference for the GCPS 2021-2022 school year. Please view the 3 calendar options below and complete the Google Survey to select your choice. Our school preference will be submitted to the district on November 12.

Doing our part to stop the spread of Covid-19

Please use the COVID-19 Morning Checklist to help reduce the spread of Covid-19. Please continue to follow the guidelines each morning when sending your 'in person' student to school. We have seen a slight increase of cases in Gwinnett and we want to make sure we are ALL doing our part.

Each school in our district has a trained Health Response Team (HRT). If a suspected case of Covid-19 is reported at our school, this team follows set guidelines and procedures. Please be assured that you will be contacted by an HRT member if your child has been identified as 'close contact' to someone in our school who has tested positive for Covid-19.

The most important thing we can do is continue to wear our masks, practice social distancing, and wash hands regularly. We are #STRONGERTOGETHER when we all do our part.

Staff Goody Day Provided by Kindergarten and Pre-K Parents!

Big picture
Thank you so much to all our wonderful parents who provided snacks for our staff today! As you can see, it was an incredible turn out of wonderful goodies! We even had a parent that has a digital student come and sit in our car rider line just to drop some snacks off! We so appreciate our parents and PTA who show appreciation to our hard working teachers and staff!

On Nov. 3 citizens of Gwinnett County will vote to extend the 1 penny sales tax. Please review the links below for more information. Make your vote count!

Parsons Cubs,

Our PTA is excited that October is Bullying Prevention Month. Do you know what bully behavior is? Bully behavior is when someone is being hurt either by words or actions on purpose, usually more than once, feels bad because of it, and has a hard time stopping what is happening to them. We want each of our Parsons Cubs to be a kid against bully behavior. So we are asking each of you to take one or both of our Stop Bullying Challenges.

Challenge #1 - Answer a question about bully behavior that will be placed on our Unity Tree. This week’s question is, "What are ways we can help each other be stronger together at Parsons?"

Challenge #2 - Watch this week's Brainpop video about bully behavior - Cyberbullying.

The challenges will be in our Parsons newsletters every Friday. So ask your parents to help you sign up for the challenges and submit your response. We will be giving out some really cool prizes every Friday, so be sure to take the challenge by Wednesday of each week.

Thanks for being a Parsons Cub against bully behavior!

Student Engagement Survey: Grades 3-5

The Student Engagement Instrument (SEI) is a survey used to measure how engaged students are at school and with learning. When taking the SEI, students respond to items that cover a variety of topics related to their engagement in their education, including the level of support they receive from teachers, peers, and family, as well as their perceptions of school work and future educational goals. We measure student engagement in GCPS because it is related to important outcomes such as on-time graduation and postsecondary success.

This year's survey will provide us with current data, but it will also allow us to compare student engagement from this year to last year. Our students in grades 3-5, digital and in person, will be completing the survey in the upcoming week with their teacher.

*Last year's average Student Engagement Instrument Composite Score for Parsons ES was 4.25, which was higher than the GCPS average of 4.24.

Instructional Resource Public Review

Staff, parents, and Gwinnett community members are invited to provide input on proposed instructional resources for select courses in Language Arts, Social Studies, Career and Technical Education, and Foreign Language, conducted as a virtual review Oct. 1 through Oct. 31. Before adopting instructional resources for classroom use, Gwinnett County Public Schools (GCPS) undergoes an extensive selection process. The division of curriculum and instructional support convened multiple committees involving various stakeholder groups to select resources to consider for adoption. The resources were reviewed for alignment with the school system’s Academic Knowledge and Skills (AKS) curriculum as well as strength of instructional strategies, freedom from sensitivity or bias, and diverse representation. As a part of the full selection process, resources are piloted in GCPS classrooms. Data from the public review and pilots will be considered in making adoption recommendations to the Board of Education in early 2021. To begin the public review, please visit this link. For more about the instructional resources review process, contact the Office of Instructional Resources and Support, at 678-301-6828.
