"Anyone who has two shirts should share with the one who has none, and anyone who has food should do the same.”

Luke 3:11

Dear ICCR Community,

During this season of Lent, ICCR will partner with the Heifer Project, a nonprofit organization whose mission is to end hunger and poverty while caring for the Earth. Heifer provides necessary livestock, training, and related services to small-scale farmers and communities worldwide.

Between Monday, March 27th, and Wednesday, April 5th, students in grades K-8 will collect coins in their classrooms. Each day students will bring in quarters, dimes, nickels, and pennies. At the end of the collection, classrooms will count their coins and choose an animal they would like to donate to a village. For example, a $20 donation goes toward purchasing a flock of baby chicks.

In addition, the class that collects the most coins by the end of this collection will also receive free ice cream for their classroom on Thursday, April 6th.

As classrooms purchase animals, we will place a cutout on a shared farm bulletin board to show each class’s progress. In addition, students will take part in mini-lessons during religion, science, and social studies to learn more about the animal they selected and the impact it will have on the community to which they have contributed.

Thank you for your help and support of this great cause.

Have a wonderful weekend!
