Central Elementary News-March 12-March 13
Opening Minds
Dear Staff,
Although I was hoping we could talk about chapters 5 and 6 of Opening Minds because they are filled with ideas to push student learning and collaboration, I do understand that we needed to extend the discussion around safety. However, I want to honor the time and energy you spent to prepare for the meeting by reading. We will do this using a Google Form. Look for this in a separate email early this week.
Please note the groups I had placed you in for the meeting. I would like each group to comment on how the assigned two words such as Engagement and Relationships relate to the text we read. They words are not mean to go together necessarily so you can comment separately. We will use Google Forms for our conversation. Please participate in the conversation during over the next week.
Have a great week!
Julie
Faculty Meeting Outcomes
- We are in the process of ordering radios for each grade level and the basement for Dana Loudermilk. These will be placed in a classroom most centralized for your team. This means that not only will you still grab the radios on the way to recess, you will have one per grade level. You will have to remember to pick it up. This means we each person on recess duty will have a radio. In the event of an emergency, you will all have the ability to take care of our students and communicate.
- These radios are close to $500.00 a piece. We did get them on sale. However, it is important to take care of these and USE them since we are buying them.
- We are in the process of counting window keys and will distribute once we know who does not have one.
- Substitute Brochure. Please read through the attached brochure and make sure this information is easily seen in your sub plans since subs are signing off they know this safety information.

Cogat Documents--Make sure you take the time to read through the documents provided in your blue folder. Information goes home Wednesday to parents!
The CogAT measures three different cognitive abilities.
- The verbal section measures a child's ability to remember and transform sequences of English words, to understand them and to make inferences and judgments about them.
- The quantitative section measures a child's understanding of basic quantitative concepts and relationships.
- The non-verbal section measures reasoning using pictures and geometric shapes. This section reduces the impact of language on the student's score.
- The composite score is a total score for all three batteries.
