The Buzz at Westbrook School
December 9, 2022
From the Principal...
Dear Westbrook Families,
We had a great week at Westbrook. Our early childhood students were able to participate in a dinosaur-themed week. A few activities included listening to read-aloud stories about dinosaurs, playing dinosaur digs, and practicing counting and lacing with dinosaur beads.
Kindergarten students have been working hard in their reading centers. They read “just right” books at their level with their teacher. They are looking forward to the winter PTO class parties on December 22nd.
Our first-grade students have been writing nonfiction stories. They have been setting goals to create an exciting beginning, provide facts, and provide labeled illustrations. Students use checklists to ensure they include all the nonfiction elements. We are proud of our student's hard work!
Thank you for all the support you provide at home. Have a wonderful weekend!
For your children,
Danielle Crandall
First Graders eat lunch with Mrs. Crandall and Mr. Anderson this week!

We are so excited to have lunch with our first graders during the 22-23 school year!
Recess Reminders
Dress for Outdoor Weather
As the weather turns cooler, please ensure your children are dressed to go out for recess. Unless it is raining or the temperature / wind chill is too cold (15 degrees or below, real-feel temperature), the students will go out every day for recess. Please write your student’s last name on a tag for all belongings (coat, boots, snowpants, etc.) We already have a lot of coats and sweatshirts in the lost and found.
Items from Home
As a reminder, students can bring small items from home to play with during indoor recess. However, we do not want students to lose, trade, or break valuable items. As we head into the new year, we encourage parents to check in with their students regarding the things they bring to school.

Safety Reminders
Please ensure you use the crosswalk in the parking lot walking to and from Westbrook.
Please do not walk between the buses. Staff members will be in front of the school each morning, reminding families to only cross at the crosswalk.
Please do not bring dogs or animals onto school property. Many of our students are frightened of dogs.
Please contact the classroom teacher if you have a friend or family member picking up your child. Please communicate to the adult which door your child is dismissed from.
Recognize a Staff Member
Westbrook teachers and staff work hard to support students and staff daily. We invite you to complete the google form if you would like to recognize a staff member or team for their hard work and dedication. We will pass on the good news to them. Thank you in advance for sending an encouraging word, as we know it will mean so much to them.
LIBRARY NEWS from Mrs Capra
Gingerbread Friends in the Library
We are enjoying the creativity of our students and their gingerbread friends in the library.
There's room for more friends!
If your student would like, please have them decorate the gingerbread friend sent home last week based on a favorite book character. This activity is completely optional.
Remember to please put your child’s name and teacher’s name (AM or PM for kindergarten) on the back so we can return it to them after display. Please include the book character's name on the back too!
