2nd Years
Project Y is in full swing as learners submitted their finalized grant proposals last week. The PTSA reviewed the proposals and awarded funding to those that met the criteria. Teams reached out to professionals The Second Years are very fortunate and grateful to have these opportunities. Sewing, 3D printing, cutting, CAD...learners have been hustling and bustling in so many different ways. We are excited to see what these learners have in store, as they continue prototyping, refining, and researching for their products and marketing! Logos have been another focus this week, as learners design and develop aspects of their brand and message. We look forward to see all of these pieces come together!
2nd Years Project Y Parent Letter
Dear Second Year Parents,
It’s hard to believe that we are embarking on our last project for the year, Project Y. The project driving question is “How can we change the world?” As we begin “Project Y”, it is important to also think of it as “Project Why”. Why do we solve problems? Not only to make life more convenient, but also to make it better, not just for ourselves, but also for others. Through the design of a product, learners will be seeking to improve the lives of others.
In biology, we will focus on experimental design and interpreting/representing data. In math, the learners will be able to apply the relationships in circles as well as rigid and non-rigid transformations to create a logo design for their organization.. In engineering learners will be using the engineering design process to develop an innovative product or service. In art/technology, product branding will be the focus through determining target audiences and logo design. World History will survey the Contemporary period, from the 1930s forward.. In Debate , learners will be participate in a full debate, concerning a current topic. In English, learners will be reading self selected text on innovation and innovators. In LOTE, learners will deepen and discuss their knowledge and understanding of invention and innovation as well as explore and discuss the inventors and innovators who have made an impact.
