Scholars who do not have their IDs on will be required to purchase a temporary for $1 or a replacement for $5. If scholars do not have the funds then they will be placed on the detention list. Safety
Permenter Families & Staff,
All of us are concerned about the safety of our school family in these unprecedented and challenging times. In the Cedar Hill Independent School District and at Permenter our top priority is assuring the safety of our scholars and staff. As campus principal, I promise to do everything reasonably possible to protect our scholars against any threat that may arise while in my care. I want to inform you of the steps we are taking to honor my promise to ensure that our school and the children in them remain safe.
Our safety/security focuses on four areas:
Effective planning
Physical security
Coordination with district and city emergency responders
Clear & timely communication
Effective Planning
Our campus has a comprehensive Emergency Response Plan that is developed, reviewed annually, and updated when needed, with the assistance of the Cedar Hill ISD Police Department and emergency response experts. In general, our campus plan includes the designation of a crisis management team, evacuation, shelter-in-place, and lockdown/lockout procedures, provisions for updating the plan, and resources for external assistance before, during, and after an event. Our plan also includes training our staff and scholars and conducting various drills to practice our plans. Currently, Permenter staff are reviewing the duty supervision schedules for teachers and planning more tabletop exercises to identify areas where improvements can be made.
Physical Security
Entry into our school is restricted using access control and security vestibules. Parents and other visitors coming into schools must check-in at the main office. All adults who work with our scholars during and after school require background checks. Our campus and each CHISD middle and high school have a full-time security officer on campus to support and respond to any safety concerns. These security officers are involved in random searches and screenings that are an additional layer of security for our campus.
Coordination with district and city emergency responders
CHISD has a very close relationship and strong lines of communication with local law enforcement agencies, our first responders, and the courts. CHISD has a District Safety Committee with representatives of each school level (elementary, middle, and high), key district staff members, and representatives from local emergency management. I work closely with the high school principals to discuss security procedures and routines that we can implement to help create habits that will benefit our scholars now and when they transition to either CHHS or Collegiate High School.
School psychologists, social workers, and counselors have also been trained in crisis intervention and are available to scholars and their families in all emergencies.
Clear and timely communication
Timely, clear, and accurate information to our parents and families is important during an emergency. CHISD will use the communication capabilities of our student information system (Skyward), emails, phone calls, text messages, local media outlets, chisd.net, district social media pages (@CedarHillISD on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram), and the CHISD mobile app to share information.
It is critically important that family emergency contact information is up to date in Skyward. Scholars or parents in the school community can anonymously submit any suspicious activity, bullying, or other student-related issues to a school administrator(s) through the CHISD Anonymous Alerts System.
You can update your contact information in Skyward Family Access. If you have forgotten your password, please email family.access@chisd.net and a district staff member will contact you.
I want to reassure you that Permenter and CHISD have been proactive in preparing for those challenges that we hope will never occur. We will remain vigilant in providing a safe school environment conducive to teaching and learning. Thank you for your continued support and for entrusting the safety of your scholar to us.
Sincerely,
John Ensley, Principal

PTA's Message On TikTok
Recently there have been a number of worrisome headlines about social media, such as illegal and dangerous ‘challenges that have resulted in the destruction of school property by students. We all want our teens to use common courtesy whether they're online or offline. On behalf of our PTA, we are sharing two resources that we hope will help you and the youth in your household to have a positive, open dialogue about these current events and issues.
Have The Smart Talk. This is a free online tool from National PTA that guides kids and caregivers through a conversation together about social media, technology, apps, etc., and helps families set (or revisit) household rules.
Note: The Smart Talk originally was designed for kids getting their first device, so older teens may feel the tool is not for them, but the actual content is great for kids of any age. Give it a try if you are feeling unsure how to have this conversation, or feel unsure about what topics to address – or simply use it as inspiration for an offline talk with your teen.
Check out the TikTok Guide for Parents. This downloadable guide (PDF file) covers a lot of ground about how TikTok works, how to use the safety features and privacy settings, step-by-step instructions on how to report inappropriate content in the app, and more.
October is National Bullying Prevention Month, and we know our children can experience a lot of social pressures that feel amplified by our increasingly digital lives. It can be hard to know how to broach these topics with our children, so we hope these two resources help make it a little easier.

Lunch Forms
As of today, 141 of our scholars do not have a lunch application on file for the 2021-2022 school year, which equals approximately 39 percent.
In order to ensure that our campus is placed into the correct comparison group by the Texas Education Agency (TEA), all scholars should have the application completed to see if they qualify for free lunch (economically disadvantage measure). Even if you think your family will not qualify, please assist us in this effort.
As a reminder, only one application is needed if you have multiple children enrolled in the district. You just have to include their information on the same application.
Thanks in advance for helping us have accurate information reported to TEA. Please attempt the following steps, and if this does not work, I will get a hard copy sent to you:
- Go to https://www.chisd.net/
- Choose Departments and Services
- Select Child Nutrition
- Look on the righthand side, and click the Free & Reduced Lunch Application
or
- Click on this link https://www.chisd.net/Domain/48
I am including a screenshot below so that you see where the link to the application is located; I clicked on it, and it was working, so here's to you having the same success.
Scholars who have completed the task will earn a free dress pass to use during the week of September 20th.
PLEASE ENSURE CHROMEBOOKS ARE CHARGED AND BROUGHT TO SCHOOL DAILY
