Weekly Memo
November 30, 2018
Team -
“When the days are short and you haven’t recovered from the exhaustion of late fall, look for the light.” (Onward, 173)
While reading over break I learned that “within a tenth of a second, we can store negative stimuli in our memories. In comparison, positive experiences are harder for us to spot and must be focused on for 12 seconds before we can retain them in our memory.” (Onward, 179) Thus, as we started back from break this week I've pushed myself to focus on the bright spots each day.
In addition to it taking longer for us as humans to process the positive, this time of year can be even more difficult than normal for many - thus, it's easy to let the powerful and beautiful moments pass you by.
With that in mind - I challenge each you to try and focus on the bright spots and inspire your students to do the same. These moments don't need to be grandiose. In fact, I would encourage you to consider identifying a moment for yourself that others could connect with - thus fostering an opportunity everyone can be part of.
The impact can be great! Below is one teacher's bright spot testimonial captured in Onward by Elena Aguilar that I found both accessible and inspiring. Enjoy.
With gratitude for your tireless patience and partnership!
