Note from the Principal
The STAARS are Shining!!!
This week our 4th and 5th graders completed the first round of STAAR testing for this Spring. The fourth graders took the Writing STAAR test and the fifth graders took both the Math and Reading STAAR tests. The students were focused and gave all they could to show what they know. A huge thank you to all of you for working with us on these testing dates when we had to close the campus. I know it is always an inconvenience, but your cooperation is greatly appreciated.
The next round of STAAR will occur on May 14th, 15th and16th. This time the fifth graders will be taking the Science STAAR test and the third and fourth graders will be taking the Reading and Math STAAR tests. We will once again need to close the campus to all visitors those three days.
Coffee with a Cop
This month, instead of a parent’s coffee, we will be hosting Austin ISD Police officers here at Boone. As part of their “Coffee with a Cop” program, a number of AISD police officers will be here on Thursday, April 26th from 7:00 am – 8:30 am, to visit with our fabulous Boone community. They provide the coffee and we provide the welcome!!! Please plan to stop by and meet our community AISD officers and have a cup of coffee. More details will be sent out as April 26th gets closer.
Campus Advisory Council seeking new members for the 2018-19 school year
The Boone Campus Advisory Council is looking for 2-3 new parents to fill roles on the CAC. We meet once a month from 3:20 – 4:20 pm. The role of the CAC is to provide support and guidance over various school related topics and plans. Parent input is extremely valued at Boone and this is an important part of what keeps Boone great. The application for the CAC is attached to this email. Please complete the application and submit it to the main office. The CAC will be reviewing the applications and voting on new members at our April and May meetings. If you have any additional questions, please contact me directly at 512-414-5311.
Big Things Going On At Boone this Summer!
There will be a lot of activity here at Boone this summer. Along with our normal cleaning and prep work, we have no fewer than six construction related projects taking place.
The first big project has already started. You may have noticed the equipment and materials being delivered to Boone over the last week. We are very excited to announce that Boone is one of the first elementary schools in AISD to go solar!!! Over the next couple of months, a construction team will be installing and testing new solar arrays that will be mounted on the roof at Boone. If all goes as planned, Boone will be a solar powered campus by the beginning of next school year.
In addition to this, our Boone library will be undergoing a facelift. We will have a new circulation desk built and installed, improved lighting in the entryway, a new space dedicated to creating a Maker’s Space, new tables and chairs, new mobile book shelves, and a new coat of paint. It is an exciting project and one that has been made possible, in part, by all of your efforts with the Read-A-Thon and your continued support of the awesome Boone PTA.
The large partition that separates the cafeteria and the gym is also slated for replacement this summer. The new one will have a textured surface and should improve the appearance of the cafeteria, as well as making it easier to open and close that large wall for our various events.
There will also be some major renovations occurring in our A Pod, the kitchen, and around the perimeter of the building. In the A Pod, they will be redesigning the bathrooms in our PPCD classrooms to be ADA compliant. Extensive work is also planned around the exterior of the building to improve the ventilation under the building and making adjustments to the rain gutter drainage system. Finally, they will be doing some upgrades to the kitchen’s ceiling and floor.
All in all a very busy summer at Boone. It will be an inconvenience at times, but please be patient. The final results will more than make up for this. All of the projects are slated to be completed by the start of school. Keep your fingers crossed!!!
Parent Input Student Placement Form
Attached to this email is the form for you to use to provide any input you would like regarding your child’s classroom placement next year. Hard copies are also available in the main office. Just drop by and we will get you one. Forms will be due by May 11th.
