IMPORTANT DATES FOR YOUR CALENDAR

November 23-25 - No School Thanksgiving Break

Note: We will not be sending a newsletter next week. Enjoy your break!

Greene School Named Momentum School by ODE

The Ohio Department of Education recently named Momentum Schools across the state. Schools earn this award by earning A's on all value-added measures on their school report card. We are proud of the work our staff and students have done to achieve such an award! We would also like to note that we feel the report card fails to capture all of the great things that go on at the Greene School. We are most proud of the work done on a daily basis by our staff and students, as well as the amazing support from the community. This is what creates the amazing experience for our students that will never be measured through a test.

Give Back to OGB!

Sycamore Community Schools believes in giving back to our community. That is why we are a proud supporter of Operation Give Back, a Blue Ash-based charitable organization that helps families and students right here in the Sycamore district.

This year we are stepping up our efforts to collect donations for Operation Give Back’s Holiday Store. The Holiday Store helps more than 100 local families have a special holiday season.

Each of our seven schools along with our District Office is collecting items for the Holiday Store from now until December 9. While you are doing your Thanksgiving grocery trip or holiday shopping, please consider picking up non-perishable food items, toiletries, paper products, warm clothing, and new toys to donate to this great cause. Click here for a detailed list of items needed. You can drop your donations off in the collection bins at your child’s school or at Operation Give Back at 10891 Millington Court, Blue Ash, Ohio 45242, Tuesdays-Thursdays, from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Monetary donations and gift cards are also greatly appreciated. Click here for more information on how to donate. Operation Give Back is also seeking volunteers for the Holiday Store on December 9-10. Please contact Operation Give Back at (513) 489-2023 or office@ogiveback.com to sign up to help.

We are so excited to spread some cheer to the children in our schools this holiday season, and we welcome you to be a part of this giving. #SycamoreStrong

Rain Garden Receives Commemorative Sign

The Greene School has one of the oldest established rain gardens in Cincinnati. We recently received a commemorative sign. With help from community partners, our students were able to develop the rain garden. Read more about it here.

Nurse's Update: Achieving Balance during the Holidays

Compassion and gratitude are two words often associated with the holiday season. While we all strive to keep these words at the forefront of our holiday tasks, the stress of the season can also become a reality, sometimes overshadowing all else. There is no single remedy for stress reduction that works for everyone, but most people agree that preventing to begin with is most effective. This video presents a simple explanation about how our brains work, and how compassion and gratitude bring us and our lives back into balance. Taking care of ourselves allows us to take care of others. Be well!

Optional CogAT Testing

An optional administration of the CogAT for gifted service will be offered on Tuesday, December 6th at Greene.

Who should take this test?

  • Current 5th grade students who are NOT in Accelerated Math or Advanced Language, but have 2 scores of 95th percentile or higher on their Math or Reading MAP within the last 12 months. These 5th grade students should register for the test and will need to score a 128 on the CogAT for placement into 6th grade Accelerated Math and/or Advanced Language.

  • Current 5th or 6th grade Accelerated Math students who are interested in taking Double Accelerated Math and have 2 scores of 98th percentile or higher on their Math MAP within the last 12 months. These students should register for the test and will need to score a 144 on the CogAT for placement into 6th or 7th grade Double Accelerated Math.

Unless testing for Double Accelerated Math, current accelerated students do NOT need a CogAT score to re-qualify for Advanced Language or Accelerated Math. Nor is the CogAT needed for any junior high placements (with the exception of Double Accelerated Math).

If your child meets the criteria and you would like to have him/her tested, please click on the link below to register for CogAT Testing by November 30th.
