Welcome Back!
As we begin the new year, I would like to take a moment to stress the importance of reading at home each night. Spending time reading at home is clearly linked to student achievement. I have attached one of my favorite tables of research, showing the clear advantages for children who practice reading each night compared to those who do not.
Please take time to talk to your child about what they are reading and help provide time for them to read each night. As you start the year off with structures and routines in your homes, please include reading each night as part of this plan.

Security Reminders
- All adults/visitors to the school must sign-in at the office and receive a visitor's badge. We ask that everyone wear a visitor's badge while in the building.
- Students who are dropped off in the morning will need to be dropped off on Garfield Street.
- Parents dropping students off in the morning or picking them up at the end of the day should say goodbye (am) or wait for them (pm) outside under the covered canopy by the entry doors or in the main lobby.
- Doors are locked at all times, with the exception of the entry doors on Garfield Street between 8:05 and 8:15. Students should enter the school building at these doors (Door #1) unless eating breakfast. Students eating breakfast at school in the EJ Cafe should enter the doors on 4th Street at our Kids Club/3rd grade wing (Door #3). Our arrival supervisor will be present to direct and support students.
- Please do not email or text message your child's teacher if your message is of a time-sensitive nature. Classroom teachers will only be checking computers or phones before and/or after school. Bus or pickup changes should be made through the school office at (231) 536-7564.
Student Arrival Time
EJES offers a before and after school child care program, Kids Club, which is housed here in our building. If you would like to register or need more information, please contact Kim Olstrom at (231) 536-7564 or kolstrom@ejps.org.
