Hello everyone,

It has been a busy week for LISD. We started our first round of STAAR and EOC testing this week so everyone has had to tape their ankles and put their game faces on. I know I have said this before, but it is worth saying again, thanks to our students, faculty and staff for all their hard work leading up to this week. I visited every campus this week during testing and everyone has done a fantastic job making this happen without a hitch.

LMS STAAR Bootcamp!

LMS students attended a STAAR bootcamp at their respective campuses. Students were using devices and a program called "Kahoot" to answer STAAR practice questions the day before the STAAR test. LMS invited some high school students to help assist in making sure this event was a success. There were also some 7th and 8th grade students teaching and assisting LMS students during this boot camp. I really enjoyed spending time observing our LMS students engaged in quality learning and also interacting with our LHS kids! The following faculty and staff were very instrumental in making sure this was a huge success:

Gracie Ruiz

Andrew Barnett

Alannah Brown

LeeAnn Jackson

Christy Barnett

Debbie Hensley

Ashley Davis

Jamie Mendez

Holly McGinnis

Fabian Rosales

Justin Houser

Cathy McMahan

Billy Howell

Ashley Guzman

David Adkins

Jean DeMerritt

Cindy Albright

Janie Fryar

I would also like to thank Mr. Phillips for allowing some Juniors to go over and help with this boot camp.

"Keep Levelland Beautiful"

It was fun participating in this past Saturday's clean up day. LISD had approximately 20 students from our "YELL" club show up and help pick up trash. They also learned about "Giving Back" to their community. I really enjoyed spending the day with these fine young people who no doubt will be leaders in the future!

This is always a stressful time of year for educators. Everyone has a lot on their plates and things start moving really fast. Staffing is one of those major components that we are dealing with this time of year. As our campus administrators begin interviewing and filling their open positions it can get complicated. Our campus administrators understand their individual needs but there are several things we have to look at from a central office perspective. The following are some things we consider as we start filling positions:

Class size

Program needs

Physical space

We are in the process of discussing these things and trying to meet needs. It seems like it gets more challenging every year because of having to meet the needs of a more diverse student population such as:

Special needs students

Behavioral needs students

Bilingual/ESL students

Students needing remediation

Even though we always get nervous this time of year in trying to meet all of these needs, it always seems to come together!
