Kirk Fenton News

Dear Parents and Carers,

What a busy week we have had this week! We have enjoyed the good weather by taking our learning outside and I have seen all sorts of lessons from science to art, guided reading and maths all taking place outside within the school grounds. At Kirk Fenton we believe that learning should not be restricted to the classroom and this week has been a good example of this.

Tigers also enjoyed a video call with the Yorkshire Wildlife Park looking closely at the real tigers and asking questions before their visit next week as part of their Science project with the park. They are all very excited for the trip.

Notices this week:

  • Please ensure that your child comes to school equipped for the changeable weather we are having. It may be warm in the morning so children leave without a coat or jumper but then are cold in the afternoon or cool in the morning but hot and sunny later in the day but have no sun cream or hat.
  • A reminder please that children should not be arriving on site before 8:45 am. Class doors do not open until 8:50 and class teachers are busy preparing for the day ahead so cannot supervise children who arrive early on the playground. It is parents' responsibility to wait with their child until the classroom doors open and older children who walk to school without an adult or who are dropped off nearby should not be here before that time. We have had a couple occasions recently where children have opened gates to let themselves into school early but have then had a fall whilst playing unsupervised.
  • Finally, please can I ask that parents keep younger pre-school age siblings with them when they drop off and collect. I have had several concerns raised regarding younger children running through the car park or near the main road which is worrying.

Next week we are looking forward to our Jubilee celebrations so let's pray for good weather.

Have a lovely weekend

Winning Team

Congratulations to Amelia, Sam and their team the Orange Spitfires for their win this week.

Times Tables Rock Stars

We're approaching the final week of our Summer 1 TTRockstars and Numbots competition. In KS2, it's very close at the top with Earthworms and Sharks fighting for that extra playtime prize! Sharks are currently top with only one point more than Earthworms. We look forward to seeing who the winner is next week!

Our winners of the certificates this week are: Emie in Tigers, Sam in Sharks, Eloise in Earthworms, Lillie in Jaguars, and Liam in Wolves.

Numbots

We have had lots of children in KS1 working hard this week but extra special congratulations go to Bees who are top of the KS1 league for effort and 'Class of the Week'! Well done Bees!

Our Numbots certificates this week go to Tom O, Freddy T and Alistair G. Well done, you have worked really hard and it is making a difference in your maths learning too!

Next week is our last week of our league, I wonder which class will win the extra playtime?

We are very excited to announce that we are hosting an athlete called Martin Norris who is a wheelchair Rugby champion. He is coming to inspire us and is going to challenge us to complete a circuit for which we will be sponsored. The sponsorship money raised will go towards equipment for our school and support for our country's athletes. For more information please click on the following link: Kirk Fenton Sports for Champions UK. Your child will be bringing a sponsorship form home next week which contains further information.

“Friends would just like to remind everyone about completing their order forms for the commemorative Kirk Fenton Jubilee Tea Towels. Order forms were sent out in book bags and are to be back at school asap please and no later than the 27th as per the order forms. Please contact us with any queries. We have loved seeing all the self portraits the children have produced to go on these.

Friends are also providing some extra little Jubilee celebration surprises for next week too. We hope the children like them.”
