Message from Dr. Fay & Mrs. Henson
Crossroads Parents,
Happy New Year!!! I hope everyone is doing well and enjoying your Winter Break! I know I am loving the time off while spending it with family and friends.
I want to let you all know I often brag about how awesome our Crossroads families are with supporting our school. I am aware I often reach out to our families for donations and for items for our classrooms. You all ALWAYS come through! Just last month I asked for donations of gift cards for us to give away to our staff for a fun game. Well, the game was a huge success and our staff had so much fun. Also, we received enough gift card donations for every single staff member to receive one. Thank you, thank you, thanks!
I also want to let you know our game last month was full of fun, caring challenges for staff to do. Staff were writing kind notes to each other, singing songs in the hallway, and giving gifts to each other. One of the challenges was to raise money for our Love Fund. It’s our fund that helps students with lunch and field trips. Our staff raised about $250!
What a great week we had leading up to Winter Break!
Like I said, I often brag about our families and how well you all do with helping our school community. I am proud to be a part of our Crossroads team! Thank you so much for all of the support.
Have a wonderful New Year!

Message From Nurse Maddie
LET’S SAVE LIVES!
On January 13, 2023, we’ll roll up our sleeves and help save lives! We will proudly partner with the American Red Cross to hold what we expect to be the first of many blood drives. The Red Cross has over 135 years of experience providing humanitarian aid, including more than 75 years of supplying blood to those in need.
Each pint we collect can help save up the three lives and will touch the lives of so many more. What a great way to pay it forward and make an impact on people in our community and across the country. We are very excited about the dive and I hope you are too.
Nurse Maddie is leading the initiative. Let’s show our community and the patients in need of the blood just how much we can do. If you would like to donate please sign up here. All students who refer a donor will receive earbuds with a cleaning cloth and case.
It’s not every day that we do something that has such a lifesaving impact. Let’s blow this out of the water! Thank you for making Crossroads what it is. I’ll be looking forward to seeing you at the blood drive.

PTA Update!
Happy New Year Corgis!
We hope that you had a wonderful holiday season! Thank you to everyone who supported the PTA events last year. We’ve had a lot of fun and it’s been very exciting to see everyone pull together to do things as a community, and to support the school.
We had a fantastic turnout at our Sugarfire Dining Night last month! Thank you to everyone who supported the event. We hope to see you at Tacos 4 Life on January 11 from 4-9pm for our next dining night.
Our online corgi store is still available. If you are interested in purchasing spirit wear, you can shop our store at:
https://crossroads-corgi-store.square.site/
Last month, we also treated our teachers to an afternoon of treats with the Goodie Grab. A wonderful time was had by all, and everyone left with a full box of treats. Thank you to all of the families who donated cookies and treats and to the volunteers who helped with the event. A special thank you to Bethany Bohnenstiehl, Lauren Chadbourne and Ashly Curry for coordinating everything.
This month, we are trying a new type of event. We hope that you will join us for a Family Fun Event at Rockin Jump on January 22 from 3pm-5pm. For only $15 per person, your family can enjoy 2 hours of play time at half the normal price! Plus, $5 from every ticket will go back to Crossroads. Simply mention Crossroads when you are purchasing your tickets that day and you will get our special rate. Jump socks are required but you are welcome to bring your own if you already have them. If not, they are available to purchase at the event. PLEASE go online
to https://rockinjump.com/ofallon/ to fill out the waiver ahead of time. We hope to see you there!
Mark your calendars for another new, fun event coming up on February 25. We will be hosting a Dueling Pianos Night for parents only. More information will be coming home soon, but we are excited to be able to offer an opportunity for parents to get together outside of school and have some fun.
Corgis Care!
Did you know that 8% of the people living in St. Charles County are currently facing food insecurity? And 24% of those people are children. The numbers were scary before, and Covid-19 has increased them dramatically. Food banks see a flood of donations in November and December, but then things come to a screeching halt. That is why we are continuing our annual food drive in January. We will be collecting non-perishable food to benefit Operation Backpack and Operation Food Search. Not only will we be helping our community, we will be having a competition between houses to see who can collect the most food. House points will be awarded to the first, second and third place houses. We will also be collecting food at our Rockin Jump event. Other fun details are still being worked out and we will share more information once everything is finalized. But in the meantime, please start gathering non-perishable items to donate. We appreciate your support!
Stay tuned, we’ve got lots of fun events coming up!

WSD Belonging and Culture Family Survey
As part of the WSD’s ongoing efforts to meet the goals within the Comprehensive School Improvement Plan (CSIP), district surveys will be administered to students in grades K-12, families, and staff. The surveys are designed to solicit feedback about the sense of belonging created within each building as well as perspectives regarding building/department culture. Each school and department within the district will use this survey data to understand the current reality and to make improvements moving forward.
Families may begin taking the survey starting Jan. 4, by clicking here. The survey will remain open through Jan. 20.
The district windows for students to take the surveys are Jan. 30-Feb. 10 and May 1-19.
For more information regarding these surveys, including logistics about the administration of the surveys, a preview of the surveys, and information on how to opt-out, please check out our WSD Belonging and Culture Survey page.

Arrival and Dismissal - Please Read Carefully
All of our car riders and our daycare van riders will go to the gym at the end of the day. Once in the gym, a staff member will call students’ names over the radio for them to come out to meet their vehicle. A staff member will escort students to each car.
PLEASE READ: We are no longer allowing parents to walk up to get their children. You will need to drive through the pick-up line.
We will be sending home lime green car tags with all students on their first day of school, 8/22. (They will also be available at Meet the Teacher night.) ***PLEASE USE A THICK MARKER TO FILL THESE OUT***
When you drive through the car lanes, please have the lime green car tag on your dashboard where we can see the names of your students. If you do not have the car tag, we will have to check your ID, radio the office, and wait for them to clear you before we can call your child out. As you can imagine, this will slow down the process for everyone.
A few other things to keep in mind with this process: Please remember, we do not accept dismissal changes after 3:00 pm. Also, our primary focus is student safety and 3:20 is a critical time when children can potentially get lost in the shuffle; it is imperative that we streamline the secretaries’ time to focus only on emergencies that arise. With that in mind, please understand that we will not permit access to the office after 3:20 to check out a student. Please plan accordingly so we aren’t caught in the position to have to tell you no.
Also, remember that you are responsible for calling in to change if your walker will become a car rider during the days with inclement weather. We will no longer be sending a text about rainy day dismissals.
The expectation is all parents will have the lime green car tags ready to go by August 29. If you have any questions or thoughts, please let us know.
Please review our arrival and dismissal maps below:

You Shop, The School Gets Paid!
Did you know that when you shop on Amazon, it’s easy for Crossroads to get a small percentage from your purchase? All you have to do is shop through AmazonSmile instead of Amazon. Once you’ve set up your account, your shopping experience will be identical. The difference is that when you shop on AmazonSmile, the AmazonSmile Foundation will donate 0.5% of the purchase price of eligible products to the charitable organization of your choice. Crossroads Elementary PTA would be grateful to be the charity you choose. Go to smile.amazon.com to get started. Once you’ve set this up, it’s easy to set up your Amazon app to link to AmazonSmile as well.
