Back to School Night

August 18th from 5:30 to 7:00 pm we will host a Back To School Night for families. This is a time for students to meet their teacher and drop off supplies. We will use Sign-Up Genius to stagger student times. This provides you and the teacher a better opportunity to meet and visit. A link to sign up will be sent out to families on Monday, August 15th along with the name of your child's teacher.

Remember you must enroll and prove residency before your student is placed in a classroom. If you need any assistance with this process, please contact Marci Wettstein at 816-359-4410 or click here for more information. Also, check out the guidance below.

Back to School Information

Arrival

  • Students may arrive at 8:50 am. Students may not enter earlier unless attending a before school club, because there is not adult supervision until 8:50 am.
  • As soon as busses and car riders arrive at 8:50 am, they may go straight to their classroom or stop at the cafeteria for breakfast.
  • Breakfast is served from 8:50 to 9:10 am.
  • Instruction begins at 9:10 am.

Dismissal

  • We begin dismissal at 3:50 pm to allow for student travel time within the building for our 4:00 pm dismissal. For example, car rider students walk to the cafeteria for dismissal, and Adventure Club to the gym.
  • Please remember the first several days of school dismissal will take longer. We double-check all bus rosters and placards for car riders.

Car Riders

  • During back-to-school night, please visit the cafeteria and sign up for a car rider placard and number. This is how we safely identify you as an authorized person to pick up your student.
  • Whoever is picking up the child should have this placard to ensure the safety of our children.
  • As you arrive in the morning, there will be one car line with staff members assisting students exiting from cars. Please wait for a staff member to help your student before they get out of the car to ensure the safety of all students.
  • At dismissal, there will be a double lane of cars to help expedite pick-up.

Bus Riders

  • Bus information will be available in the parent portal starting on August 15th.
  • You may contact First Student at 816-359-4560
  • Families can use the First View App to track their child's bus route.
  • Kindergarten students must be met at the bus stop by a parent when dropped off.
  • Staff help students safely arrive and leave the building.

Be a Hawk Hero!

We are very excited to bring volunteers back into our building this year and have created our Hawk Heroes program for family members to sign up to volunteer in their student's classroom, eat lunch with their student, and finally, head out to recess with their student for some fun! We will have more information and a sign-up available at Back-to-School Night, but wanted to put the plug out there for this new opportunity to volunteer at Hopewell!

All Hawk Heroes volunteers must be screened through Park Hill prior to volunteering. More information can be found on the Park Hill website or by visiting the Hopewell office.

Park Hill Volunteering Information

Soaring to Success

Each morning our Hawks recite the school pledge and throughout the day they receive positive feedback about following Hawk expectations. Students receive Soar Slips as an acknowledgement of following the expectations. Students can redeem their Soar Slips for different activities such as lunch with the teacher, game with the principals or going to read to a younger class. These activities are great ways for students to be role models and engage in meaningful interactions within their class and throughout the building. Often a class might be trying to reach a Soar Slip goal together to earn something for the whole class.

We believe it is our job to teach our children expectations just like we would teach the curriculum. Through Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS), we have developed a framework that sets clear and consistent language throughout the building.

Each week, a Hawk from each class is recognized for being an outstanding Hawk and Soaring to Success! They receive a certificate and get their picture on a bulletin board in our main hall.

Fun Run September 16th!

We are pumped up to host our first Fun Run Fundraiser! This will happen during the day on September 16th. It is an awesome week of character building followed by the final day Fun Run. There is music, blow up arches and plenty of fun to go around. Parents are invited to come and cheer on our students and volunteer. Closer to the event, we will send out a sign up sheet for volunteers and provide more information on the fundraising part of this event. Funds we raise help with providing amazing experiences for our students such as field trips (virtual and in person), school t-shirts, items for our school PBIS store, play equipment and much more.

Health services and Covid-19

Park Hill School District continues to work closely with our community public health partners as we prepare for the 2022-2023 school year.

Please review these reminders as we prepare for back-to-school:

  • The CDC continues to recommend masks in our schools, facilities, and buses when community levels are high, but they will not be mandated at this time.
  • The district will no longer have a COVID-19 dashboard.
  • For up-to-date information about our community’s case numbers, the following dashboards are available:

MARC KC Region COVID-19 Data Hub

Missouri Weekly COVID-19 Activity Report

KCMO COVID-19 Dashboard

First View Bus App for Families

Prior to the start of summer school, please download and log in to the First View by First Student Bus App! In addition to access during the school year, logging in now will allow you access to the app the entire summer school session.

All students scan their badges as they board the bus, giving you access to live updates as to the location of your child's bus and the anticipated time in which the bus will arrive at your stop. This is especially helpful when buses become delayed while in route for various reasons. Check out the information below to get set up!

Throughout the school year, the district or school might take pictures/videos and release personal information about students. This could be to a local newspaper, Hopewell newsletters or on our school website. The district or school might also post pictures on social media (Facebook or Twitter). If you DO NOT want your child's image, please contact your child's teacher or the front office to fill out an Image/Contact Information OPT-OUT form.

Translation Information

We partner with Argo Telephonic Translation Services to help us better communicate with families that speak a language other than English. We can set up an interpreter during parent conferences in addition to using a translator during phone calls. If you, or someone you know would benefit from this service, please let your child's teacher know, or contact an administrator.

Park Hill Star

Our employees are the reason we are so successful here in the Park Hill School District, and we would like to recognize them for all they do for our students.

That is why we present the Park Hill Star award once a month to a Pre-K or elementary teacher, a secondary teacher and a support employee. Anyone can nominate an employee for this award by using the form below. It asks you to share how your nominee demonstrates our district values of continuous improvement, high expectations, integrity, visionary leadership and student focus. You can also share how your nominee supports the goals in our district’s strategic plan.
