Mrs. Waterstredt's weekly newsletter
Week of May 16, 2016
Math- I didn't give the Unit 8 math test last week because I wanted to sneak in a lesson about factors, multiples, and prime and composite numbers before our students took the math M-STEP. (This content is in Unit 4, which we decided to teach last.) That being said, the Unit 8 math test is today, a study guide was sent home last week. We will then begin Unit 4, which involves word problems and variables.
Writing - I hope to have students share their State Reports this week, and then begin our Poetry unit... all of this will depend on how long the M-STEP takes this week.
Science - We continue our investigations with electricity this week. Students will learn about series and parallel circuits, and they will build an electromagnet.
Social Studies -This week we will put social studies on the back burner as we continue with our science unit.
Reading- Our work in the Historical Fiction is coming to a close. As a final activity in this unit, students will be working with their groups to decide how they want to "celebrate" the end of the unit. Students will consider the historical period of their novel, and design their own activity. (Write letters to soldiers, act out a scene in the book, etc.) The timing of this "celebration" will depend on the M-STEP... and may have to be put on hold until the test is completed.
This week we will be testing on Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday after lunch. Students will be taking the Math part. This is two tests, divided among three days.
