Covid Update
We are excited to begin offering intramural girls volleyball and boys soccer for our middle schoolers.
Thank you for doing a great job of keeping your child home if he/she is sick or if someone in the home is awaiting results of a COVID test. #InThisTogether
Congratulations American Legion Award winners!
Earlier this week, we recognized our American Legion Awards from May, 2020. American Legion honors fifth graders annually at the end of the year award ceremonies. The awards recognize students who display courage, honor, scholarship, leadership, service and patriotism. Congratulations to Fredly and Katherine who received Honorable Mention and to our winners, Boston and Angelina!
Accelerated Reader
Since the first weeks of school, all students have been encouraged to read and take Accelerated Reader tests. The AR program is a very important part of our reading program. It is completely individualized with each student reading at their own level and picking books that interest them. The AR program is a great way for teachers to track participation and progress in reading, and more importantly, it is an outstanding motivator for students.
Teachers usually allow for 20 minutes of silent reading and AR testing throughout the day. In addition, the students should be reading each night for 20 minutes. We feel very strongly that the key to success in all subjects is to read, read, read. Students are also given an opportunity to check out books from their classroom library as needed. To check and see if any books you have at home have AR tests and the books reading level, you can go to: www.arbookfind.com . This is a great way to help your child find great books that they will be able to AR test on.
Students can also log on to Clever and access the app MyOn where they can read online books then can take an AR test. Both fiction and nonfiction books are available on a variety of topics and reading levels.
To encourage students to continue reading and working toward their AR goals, the following goals and incentives are being offered.
Grade 1 will earn a no homework pass if they reach 2 points.
For 5 points, grade 2 will earn a no homework pass.
Students in grade 3 through 5 who have 20 points will earn a popsicle.
Middle school students with 25 points will earn a treat bag and a dress down pass.
