April Newsletter
A Word from the Supervisor
Hello Parents:
Happy Spring! I am so excited that it is finally beautiful outside and we can be on the playground almost all afternoon. If you see us out there, we will have the sign-out sheet and have pick-up available at the playground.
Also, I want to remind you that spring break for Warren County schools is April 11-15. Community Education will have an all-day program available at Cumberland Trace Elementary.
Thanks for your support! If you have any questions, comments, or concerns, see me or Ms. Natalie.
Thanks,
Ms. Drew
Summer all-day programs being offered
Registration is under way for Community Education school-age summer programs. Super Summer Club for children in grades K-3, and Camp Extreme for children in grades 4-8, begin May 23 and continue through Aug. 3. Hours for the camps are 7 a.m. until 6 p.m. daily. From May 23 through June 1, all grades will meet at the Bowling Green Independent Schools' Professional Development and Learning Center (PDLC) at 503 Old Morgantown Road. From June 2 through August 3, Super Summer Club will meet at T.C. Cherry Elementary School at 1001 Liberty Way and Camp Extreme will meet at the PDLC.
Parents may register their children for these programs on a weekly basis at a cost of $125 per week. Breakfast, lunch, a snack, and most field trips are included in the cost. You only pay for the weeks your child attends. The early-bird registration fee of $30 is good through 4:30 p.m. April 29 and comes with a guarantee that your child will receive a camp t-shirt. After April 29, the registration fee is $60 per family and does not include the t-shirt guarantee. To access the online registration form, go to this link:
Insurance help available in case of accidents
Accidents do happen, and children are no exception to that. Sometimes a little one trips over her own feet on the playground and falls. Or maybe a child bumps into another one as he is running on the playground. We don’t like to see any child hurt! Although parents sign a waiver stating they understand they solely are responsible for any medical expenses, Community Education wishes to assist parents in such circumstances and annually purchases an accident insurance policy – the same used by most schools – to help defray the out-of-pocket costs on some medical visits due to accidental injury. The policy, which we upped to double coverage, realistically covers an amount that is similar to a co-pay. We do this as a convenience for our families. This policy is not intended to replace your normal health insurance policy, but is a supplement to it. We have noticed that some of the newer health insurance policies do not pay any or much at all, due to high deductibles, toward small injuries. Please double check your health insurance policy to determine how much you are willing to pay out of pocket in such a circumstance. If you need more information about this insurance and how it might benefit you, call the Community Education office. If your child has an accidental injury during our after-school or before-school program requiring medical treatment, please check with our office staff to determine how this policy can be used by your family (or be applied to their treatment expenses).
Summer Activities Fair is April 26
Community Education, Bowling Green High School Youth Services Center, and Natcher Elementary Family Resource Center are co-sponsoring the 12th annual Summer Activities Fair on the evening of Tuesday, April 26 on the concourse of the Bowling Green Ballpark, home of the Hot Rods. The purpose of the fair is to provide parents with children in grades k-12 a one-stop shop opportunity for information on the activities, camps, or other programs offered during the summer in our community. The fair will open at 4:30 p.m. Free parking will be available in the downtown parking structure. The rain date for the event is April 28.
The fair typically includes information on a wide variety of summer opportunities, including academics, art, aviation, church activities, cooking, dance, jump rope, manners, medical day care, music, junior police academy, reading, sailing, various sports, theater, train modeling, and much, much more.
Fair attendees who check in at the registration table before 6 p.m. will receive free tickets to that evening's Hot Rods game against the Clinton LumberKings.

Spellabration Art Contest winners recognized
The five winners of the Spellabration 2016 Art Contest were recognized during the event on Feb. 19 at the Sloan Convention Center. This year students were asked to submit artwork depicting animals or scenes from Kentucky Down Under. The winners of the art contest, which is sponsored by US Bank, will have their artwork printed on notecards that will be sold at Kentucky Down Under.
This year’s winners are Liz DeMarse, a Drakes Creek Middle School eighth grader; Bosco Tuyisenge, a Henry F. Moss Middle School eighth grader; Harley Wilson, a Lost River Elementary School sixth grader; Hayden Wolf, a North Warren Elementary School third grader; and Addison Rosado, a Jody Richards Elementary School first grader.
All winners and many honorable mentions had their artwork on display at Spellabration. The art was displayed for two weeks at the Bowling Green Area Chamber of Commerce.
Early School Closing Policy Reminder
If your child’s school closes two or more hours early due to bad weather or other issues, Community Education will NOT provide care that day, as the majority of our staff attend classes at WKU and cannot get to the site that early. Full afternoon care will be provided if your child’s school closes less than two hours early.
