From Principal Tim Huber
Career Week and Career Fair Are a Huge Success! ππππ
While a spirit week by itself is always a fun time, the addition of Career-focused themes and a Career Fair made for a tremendously fun and unique experience here at Harris Creek! The detailed and creative planning of our school counselors Ms. Krauss and Mrs. Carpino was on full display all week whether during classroom visits by volunteers, in the fun outfits worn by students and staff, and at the Career Fair on Thursday. All this would not be possible without the support and attendance of our amazing parent and community volunteers! We are hoping to make Career Week and Career Fair a tradition for years to come. For a more detailed look at Career Week, check out a few photo highlights below as well as many more on our Facebook Page!
Thank you for your continued support of your children and our school. Together, we will help our children SOAR to reach their greatest potential!

Health and Wellness Reminders β₯
Recently there has been an increase in students with the symptoms below at school. Please be reminded that students with the below symptoms must stay home.
To read details about how schools and our school system are responding the COVID-19 pandemic, please visit https://www.wcpss.net/covid19.
MASKS: The WCPSS Board of Education voted to make masks βrecommended, but not requiredβ in schools, effective March 7th
ON-CAMPUS COVID-19 TESTING:
Wake County Public School System, in partnership with MAKO Medical, will begin offering weekly, on-campus COVID-19 testing for students and staff. COVID-19 testing is an effective way to reduce transmission, especially when layered with other precautionary measures.
We strongly recommend all families participate in this free program. Participation helps safeguard the wellbeing of the entire school community and gives you information to help you keep your children healthy.
Participation in the program is voluntary. A parent or guardian must register any student under 18 years old in order to participate. To learn more about COVID-19 testing, visit www.MAKOstrongschoolsNC.com
NOTIFICATION PROCEDURES: If your child or a household member receives a positive COVID test or if they are exposed to someone with COVID, please emails to your child's teacher and to hces-covid19@wcpss.net right away. An office staff member will reach out to assist with next steps.
View wcpss.net/WhenToReturn for requirements to return after a COVID-19 diagnosis, exposure, or symptoms. Be sure to review recent updates which include that students are no longer considered exposed while at school as schools are following all health precautions. Students will only be sent home if they are showing symptoms of illness.
Communication: Send ALL COVID-related emails to your child's teacher and to hces-covid19@wcpss.net
COVID-19 VACCINE: Vaccines are now available for children ages 5+. Wake County Public Health encourages parents to protect their children aged 5-17 with the COVID-19 vaccine β it's safe, effective, and available at no cost. Read more about the vaccine for kids: Pfizer-BioNTech (ages 5+). Wake County Public Health is offering special kids-only vaccine days. Families can go to WakeGov.com/kids to sign up. Pediatrician offices, pharmacies and children's hospitals are also providing vaccine appointments for children in Wake County. Visit https://covid19.ncdhhs.gov/vaccines/kids to find a vaccine near you.
Thank you for doing your part to keep our kids in school!
Major Calendar Change: Affects All Families on All Tracks π
School District Leadership confirmed this week a new state requirement for this school year that all schools offer EOG Remediation and Readministration opportunities for students meeting certain specific criteria.
The summary is as follows:
- MOST IMPORTANT FOR ALL FAMILIES TO KNOW: The school year essentially will end 2 days before originally scheduled for all tracks. This means the last day for all PreK-2nd grade students and most 3rd-5th grade students is Thursday, June 2nd (Track 1) or Monday, June 27th (Tracks 2,3,4).
- The purpose of this change is to facilitate the opportunity for 3rd-5th grade students who qualify to receive remediation in tested areas and then retest
The criteria to qualify: All students who pass an EOG tested course or subject in 2021-22 but score Not Proficient (scale score ranges) on the initial administration of the EOG will be eligible to participate. For elementary students passing ELA, Math and Science is defined as having a mode score of level 3 or 4 in all strands within the content area for Quarter 3 and the projected Quarter 4 grades. Mode means that most grades for that content area are levels 3 or 4.
The number of students who qualify based on this criteria will be small. Students not meeting this criteria WILL NOT have the opportunity to retest and there will be no exceptions.
- At Harris Creek, remediation and retesting will take place on June 3rd and 6th (Track 1) and June 28th-29th (Tracks 2,3,4). Schedule specifics for those days are TBA
- Opt-in letters will be sent to the families of qualifying students in grades 3-5 by each child's teacher
Save the Date: 5th Grade Celebrations π
Additional details about celebrations will be shared by each child's teacher.
School Supply Shopping Has Never Been Easier! ββπ
We are partnering with our amazing new spirit wear company to provide you with ONE STOP SUPPLY shopping for the 2022-23 school year!
We know you are thinking βok the PTA has lost it if it's promoting supplies for next year,β BUT hear us out. Gas prices are sky high, and your time is valuable! Year-round schools never have the advantage of back-to-school sales so why not spend time WITH your family instead of searching for the supplies your student needs when we have them all at the click of a mouse!!
The deadline to purchase your students supply kit for 22-23 is May 31st! All kits will be delivered DIRECTLY TO SCHOOL. Kits have all high-quality brands requested by your students' teachers. Donβt stress trying to find things anymore! Prices are on point with what youβd find in stores, and you wonβt have to worry about getting it all to school!!!
IMPORTANT NOTE: In years past we have offered an alternative to this with an early supply drop off option at school. Due to the way the calendar falls this year this will NOT be a feasible option. If you want to avoid day one hassles of getting supplies to school your best option is to pre-order here!
Transportation Reminders ππ
AM Carpool Efficiency Reminders
Please remember to pull forward as far as possible, have your student(s) open their own door, and put on your hazard lights if assistance is needed. Thank you!
Please Display Carpool Number Tags Every Afternoon
In order to ensure an efficient carpool process, please remember to hang carpool number tags to display clearly from your vehicle's rearview mirror. Please reference the image below for proper placement. This is a critical step to ensure students leave their classrooms and come outside to the correct location on the sidewalk to be picked up. Thank you!
Bus Tracking App
Please use the Here Comes the Bus app (App Store or Google Play Store) to monitor the location of your studentβs bus and when it is approaching his/her stop. To sign up: https://herecomesthebus.com/parents/get-started/ . The WCPSS school code for school bus tracking is 67500. You will need to use your child's student ID number as well.
You can also follow @HCESBuses on Twitter to confirm when your child's bus leaves campus each afternoon.
ACTION REQUESTED: Restart Your Child's WCPSS Chromebook Weekly π»
WCPSS Technology Services has seen an increase in security issues due to WCPSS devices not being restarted regularly. Restarting a device allows updates for new security and productivity features.
Students and staff should restart their WCPSS devices once per week. Consider setting a specific day for this, such as a Restart Wednesday or Restart Friday. (Important: Closing the lid only locks the device and does not shut it down.)
Restarting also can resolve many other common issues impacting student devices. Always restart a WCPSS device before contacting the Help Desk.
Thank you!
