Field Trips & Field Day

Our scholars are looking forward to two field trip during the next few weeks! The first is the rescheduled trip on Monday April 27th to the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History. The second is a trip on Saturday May 2nd to the Ecology Center at Grapevine High School. Mark your calendars and please be sure to return permission slips as soon as possible.

Friday May 8th, our Cannon Field day will be here soon. We are fortunate to have such a great group of parents to support us! A huge thank you is deserved for Lisa Holly (see note below) for organizing snacks for our fourth grades on Field Day and another great thank you to all of our parents who are willing to bring snacks for our scholars. If you are still interested in helping please check our Fourth grade Facebook for more information. We are grateful for the support and we look forward to enjoying the joy of field day with you and your scholars.

Important note from Mrs. Holly,

Hello 4th Grade Parents,

You are receiving this email because you filled out a form at the beginning of the year that you would be willing to volunteer in this or a similar capacity (snacks, parties, special events) for your child's classroom.

As many of you know, due to new Federal laws, we are not allowed to "sell" snacks at field day this year. We are however, as a school/PTA are allowed to GIVE AWAY snacks.

So in lieu of the PTA paying for snacks for the entire school, we are requesting that parents donate snacks for their homeroom classes on field day. We only need to send in snacks for our homeroom class, not the entire grade level. Each parent only needs to bring in one of the suggested snacks (see below, please), but our goal is to make sure we have at least one snack item and water bottle for each student.

If it's easier for you to make a donation of cash or check, I am happy to make a run to Wal-Mart or Costco and get things that way. Also, it might be helpful if you "reply all" (I have everyone blind cc'd) with what you are bringing for which teacher.

The following is what has been approved for each class. Remember, everything MUST be peanut free.

Water bottles
Pretzels/Chex Mix
Crackers (Graham, Cheese, etc.)
Fruit Snacks
Yogurt Tubes or other types of yogurt (although storage for this is impossible so please email me to let me know you are bringing this - you would be responsible for delivery to the class by 145 on Field Day)

All snacks are due by May 1st the latest, if not sooner. We are doing this to ensure each class is accounted for well in advance. If you are making a donation of cash, please email or call me so I know to either expect an envelope or can meet you at school.

All snacks will be eaten in their homerooms from 2-2:45, the only snacks that will be out on the blacktop this year will be the water and snow cones the PTA will be providing for all students.

Thanks, Parents! Your help is much appreciated!!

Homework Reminder

Scholars have Math and Reading homework on Monday - Thursday.
Math homework is designed to take 20-30 minutes each night. You can help develop their skills by having your child explain their thinking, creating a set time to sit down and review their work, and by reinforcing the importance of developing foundational work/study habits.
Scholars should also read 20-30 minutes every night. This will not only improve their reading skills, but will definitely make them stronger writers.
