2024 Summer Learning
Sliding into summer
Looking to keep your child's learning on track this summer? WGSD offers a wide range of engaging and educational experiences. With programs for all students and skill levels, our summer learning opportunities are the perfect way to explore new interests, gain new skills, and have fun while learning.
How do I register? Registration for all summer programs begins tonight, March 1 at 7 p.m. and closes March 15 11:59 p.m.
K-8: Register in SIS on March 1

Jumpstart to Kindergarten
Students may sign up to attend 1 session
Dates: Session #1 - June 4 - 14
Session #2 - June 17 - 28 (no session June 19)
Times: 8:00 am - 11:40 am
Who can attend: Students entering kindergarten in the 24-25 school year
Program details: Students will participate in activities that promote the development of literacy, math, art and music abilities as well as social and motor skills. Classroom and school routines will help students make a positive transition to kindergarten. Children must be five before August 1, 2024.

Summer Exploration Experience
Dates: June 3 - June 28 (no session June 19th)
Times: 8:00 am - 11:40 am
Who can attend: Students entering 1st-5th grade in the 24-25 school year
Program details: Students will engage in hands-on, project-based learning which fosters collaboration, creativity, and problem-solving. The program is taught by certified staff.

Celebrate Reading
Dates: June 3 - June 28 (no session June 19)
Times: 12:20 pm - 2:50 pm
Who can attend: Invited students entering 1st-5th grade in the 24-25 school year
Program details: Celebrate Reading provides ongoing reading support to students identified by the district.

Adventure Club
Adventure Club is the onsite before- and after-care program for students attending our elementary summer programs. Adventure Club offers care from 7 am - 8 am and 11:40 am - 5:45 pm. The cost for Adventure club is $864; the cost for students in Jumpstart to Kindergarten is $360. It is not prorated.

Transportation, meals and more
Bus transportation will be available at no cost for students attending summer programs not held at their home school. Buses will pick-up and return students to their home schools. Bus registration information will be shared with families after March 24th.
Confirmation of enrollment as well as Adventure Club and Transportation information will be sent by March 31, 2024.
A grab-and-go breakfast will be available for students in the morning. Students will also have lunch/recess if they attend either Celebrate Reading or Adventure Club after SEE. Students may bring lunch or purchase a hot lunch from the cafeteria. Families who are eligible for free or reduced meal prices during the school year maintain this status in the summer.
Hixson Summer Academy
Hixson Middle School offers free summer school enrichment to district students entering 6th through 8th grade during the 2023-24 school year.
Dates: June 5 – July 7 (No school June 19 or July 4)
Times: 8:30 a.m. – 12:45 p.m.

High School
Students in high school can register for a variety of courses including personal finance, communication arts, physical education, math and experiential learning courses from the Chelsea Center.
